Confederate Railroad – “Please Come to Boston”

Confederate Railroad - Please Come to Boston I’m not even going to try to name all the artists who have recorded this song, but I am surprised that a group like Confederate Railroad gave it a try. It’s not really in their genre, and you can hear it. This is the first release from the collection of classic covers that Confederate Railroad recorded for Shanachie Records, and perhaps the boys are trying to demonstrate their versatility. Still, this recording sounds caught between the southern rock ballads that made Confederate Railroad famous and the desperation that characterizes the best renditions of this song. In an earlier review I criticized Mark Wills for the lack of creativity in his indie label debut, but Confederate Railroad was never a mainstream act and there was no reason for them to risk tackling a crossover song like this. Still, it’s a good song performed by a talented group. There’s nothing wrong with this recording, but Confederate Railroad doesn’t do anything right either.

Ugh……there are so many things wrong with this I don’t even know where to start!!! A staunchly southern country/rock band singing about New England – what are they thinking!?!

Yes, Rex, I agree on this one. Possibly the worst song choice since Daryl Singletary covered Savage Garden.
