Clay Walker And Jessica Craig Serenaded By Tracy Lawrence At Their Wedding
- Like The Gobblers Knob I have a habit of spending too much money on books, but unlike The Knob I haven’t stepped foot inside a library in years. He recently discovered that aside from books the library also has a nice collection of music that you can check out.
- Lyle Lovett has been scheduled to play at the Americana 2007 Honors and Awards show, on Nov. 1 at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. He’ll also be receiving the inaugural Trailblazer Award.
The Americana Trailblazer Award seeks to honor those emboldened artists who create timeless musical capsules of individualistic style and purpose, according to the association. “A connoisseur and catalyst of fine music, Lyle Lovett embodies the term genre-bending.
- Rascal Flatts is on pace to have the largest sales week from a country act in 2007.
- More info on the Keith Urban motorcycle accident:
Urban said he was “out riding to an AA meeting, a time when my privacy is especially important to me, (when) I felt myself being pursued” by a photographer on another motorcycle.
“I sped up, and in an effort to elude an oncoming car which was making an illegal U-turn, saw no choice but to drop my bike,” the 39-year-old country singer said.
- Nashville star Chuck Wicks was asked by University of Tennessee coach Philip Fulmer to perform his latest single, “Stealing Cinderella”, at his daughter’s wedding. “Wicks immediately accepted the invitation to perform an acoustic version of the single at the reception this past Friday night.”
- Tracy Lawrence also played at a wedding this past weekend. He had the honor of performing for Clay Walker who married model Jessica Craig. They’ll be spending the next three weeks in Europe and Hawaii.
- Chip Frazier writes, “When you think of the great storyteller songwriters certain names come to mind. Names like, Guy Clark, Joe Ely, Robert Earl Keen, Townes Van Zandt, Kris Kristofferson, Jerry Jeff Walker and Chris Knight just to name a few. These people have one thing in common. They are all men. I have news for these gentlemen. The doors to the “old boys club” have been busted down and Mary Gauthier has just ordered a round for the house.”
- MySpace: Check out country-rock singer Jackson Taylor’s current single “Lonely” on his MySpace.
- Country Weekly has some great content this week from Brooks & Dunn. They talk about being open and honest with everything that they do. I find it amazing that they don’t even have any type of partnership contracts. That’s trust. In another article Joe Nichols talks about all the most precious things in his life and how they influenced Real Things.
- This day in history from The Country Music Hall of Fame calendar:
- Chris LeDoux born, 1948
- Elvis Presley’s first and only Grand Ole Opry performance, 1954. He performed Bill Monroe’s “Blue Moon of Kentucky”, worrying that he might offend Monroe with his hopped-up version of the waltz.
- Gene Autry died, 1998
- Billy Jo Shaver’s Everybody’s Brother received a Texas-sized five out of five rating from John Walker.

In Memory of Don Helms (1927 - 2008) Helms dated back to a time when an excellent four or five piece band and a good singer were all that were needed to make great country music. No drums, no light shows, no production tricks in the recording studio–just good music.
Don’t look now, but Darius Rucker, lead singer of 90s rock group Hootie & The Blowfish, has a country hit on his hands. What you probably haven’t heard is that Rucker is the first black artist to chart a single in the country top 20 since Charley Pride last did it in 1988.
News that former Sugarland member and co-founder Kristen Hall is suing her ex-mates, to the tune of $1.5 million, goes a long way towards providing a bit of context regarding the Atlanta singer/songwriter’s sudden departure from the group.
Josh Gracin - “Unbelievable (Ann Marie)” Despite initial marketing that touted the album as deep and personal, “Unbelievable (Ann Marie)” is anything but deep or personal.
Josh Turner - "Everything Is Fine" Turner is the rare example of an artist who records material that’s both quality and trademark.
Darryl Worley - "Tequila On Ice" A groovy mid-tempo that sways, a refreshing reprieve from the exhausting pace of a format that clamors for loud music and swelling choruses.
Blake Shelton - "She Wouldn't Be Gone" It’s all about nailing the melody rather than providing a legitimate interpretation that accentuates the lyrical content, although Shelton does do a pretty good job of injecting what limited emotion he can.
Forgotten Artist: David Rogers David Rogers (1936-1993) is proof of the adage that it’s great to be on a major label, but only if the label is truly behind you.
Forgotten Artist: Charley Pride For the ’70s, Billboard has Charley listed as its third ranking singles artist behind only Conway Twitty and Merle Haggard.
In this exclusive interview with The 9513, the Show Dog Records trio talks about growing up around Waylon and Jessi Colter, and about how those experiences have helped shaped their music as they set off on their own country music journey.
One of an emerging wave of artists empowered by decreasing production costs and a rapidly changing distribution landscape, Kelleigh Bannen has taken a do-it-yourself approach to her debut album, Radio Skies.

The library rocks. I get tons of new music there. Some I then turn around and buy, some I quietly return to the shelf. It’s genius.

It’s also Groucho Marx’s birthday. Not country music-related, but a national holiday as far as I’m concerned.

While I’m not a fan of a lot of Urban’s music (though I don’t deny the talent) I do respect that he’s taking care of his problems (going to AA etc) and it annoys me that the world is so obsessed with celebrity status and up to the minute images of who they’re with and what they’re doing that it drives paparazzi photographers to endanger themselves, celebrities and others that are randomly caught in the mix for a shot because of how much the media will pay.
It sounds like he’s a classy guy. Dropping his bike to avoid an accident with an innocent (all-be-it dumb for making an illegal u-turn) party.
I may have to do a post on a topic like this…
