Chuck Wicks - “Stealing Cinderella”
The release of this single comes at an opportune time, considering I just got married a couple of weeks ago.
I actually caught the premiere of Fox’s new show, Nashville, in which Chuck Wicks and his five o’clock shadow play a part. From what I saw on the show, Wicks was too reserved and calculated to bring much away about his personality or what his goals are as an artist. Knowing that this single had already been released also killed any suspense that the show tried to create when it made you wonder whether or not he would get a deal from Sony.
On to the single: Heartland presented a woman’s marriage from her father’s point of view with the release of their single “I Loved Her First” last year, and now Chuck Wicks is providing the view from the man that’s doing the marrying. I thought the use of Cinderella to describe the father/daughter relationship was odd, considering Cinderella’s father had passed away in the original story. However, upon subsequent listens, I realized that the beginning of the chorus sets up the use of “stealing Cinderella” to work.
I respect my father-in-law quite a bit and even though I haven’t gotten to know him terribly well (we live in different states), I can sense the relationship between him and his daughter and I definitely get the feeling that I’m “Riding in and stealing Cinderella.” The chorus is solid enough to get the idea of the song across, and the sentiment expressed by the song is real, but I think the verses were glossed over and could have done more to support the hook.
All in all, this is a decent effort by a new artist, but we all know where Heartland is now. Or do we?

We've labored long and hard to come up with our list of the Top 10 Country Albums of 2008. Click here to see who claimed the honor of the year's top album, as chosen by The 9513's staff and writers.
Don’t confuse disappointing with worst, as that list would most likely be dominated by obscure indie knockoff bands along with a couple of mainstream releases. There has to be a modicum of expectation that’s dashed upon the release of an album for it to qualify for the year’s most disappointing.
Join host Kelly Dearmore as he shines the light on several noteworthy album releases you might have missed and interviews various artists, from Sarah Borges to Trent Willmon and Reckless Kelly to Wade Bowen, in the first two episode of The 9513 podcast.
Jim Malec counts down the top 20 country music news stories of 2008. How many times do you think John Rich will be mentioned?

When I first heard this song it made me cry. It still does everytime I hear it. That is what my dad used to call me, his Cinderella. My dad passed away this past April and this brings back memories of him. Awesome song, but it brings tears to my eyes.

I was part of a very loving family Thanksgiving this weekend and I listened to the new father figure talk about what any man would have to go through when he first came to pick up and get to know his new little girl. I told him about ‘Stealing Cinderella’ and the other sister to his ‘wife’ wanted the song for her significant other. I would have given anything to have had even a portion of that kind of love from my father. He virtually abandoned me emotionally when I was just a little girl. I cry for that loss every time I hear it. I am so impressed at the new and involved dads of this time who not only love their children but are there for them, looking after them and going to ballgames, taking them swimming and making all their school concerts. What a wonderful time we are in. Love the song!

I love this song. It is amazing. I am getting married next year, and right now we are going through an ordeal about my dad liking my fiancee. My dad is still unsure about everything because he hasn’t been around for alot of my life, and now he wants to come back and make up for it. So just when we were starting to get close, my fiancee comes in and lets him know that we are getting married, so he isn’t the happiest camper. I think he is slowly getting adjusted to the fact. I really don’t know what I would do without music. I hope this song touches everyone else like it does me.

I think this song is great. I disagree with Brady’s assessment. Chuck Wicks may not be a “jumping around the stage” performer. He is a singer songwriter. He has a long collection of songs that are bound to cover the airwaves. His release of Stealing Cinderella now has a beautifully produced video, by Diana ‘Ruby’ Guidara, now on CMT Loaded. Hopefully it will hit the airwaves soon.

Just my own opinion, but perhaps if you can’t spell “engaged” you’re not old enough to be engaged.

I thought Brady’s comments on the “Real” Cinderella’s father being dead were a bit odd..no not a bit…a lot odd! She is not real Brady! She is a character! Now behave or I will send the Big Bad Wolf over to blow your house down! The song is beautiful. I bought it online and look forward to more stuff from him. I will not prejudge like Brady and put him in a “one hit wonder” pile. I do not even know Brady but wonder how many hit songs he has had to be so damned judgemental…
