Catch Dolly Parton On Dancing With The Stars Tonight
- Amazon unleashed their mp3 download store yesterday. The difference between it and iTunes? Amazon’s tracks are unencumbered by DRM and are priced at 89 cents. The same DRM free tracks on iTunes would run you $1.29, while DRM laden tracks go for 99 cents. For now, only EMI and Universal have made their catalogs available to Amazon, but hopefully they will be joined by other labels in the future.
- You’ll definitely have some good music to listen to come Christmas time. Pam Tillis will be releasing a Christmas album on November 13th, and if I remember correctly Toby Keith and Randy Travis are releasing Christmas albums as well. Who are some artists who you’d like to see make a Christmas album?
- Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts says that they don’t pay attention to what critics think, but do worry about what the industry and institutions like the Grand Ole Opry think.
‘I think sometimes they think of us as young punk kids that don’t have appreciation for Lefty Frizzell and Hank Williams Sr. and people like that, and it blows my mind because those are the people we grew up on,’ DeMarcus says. ‘But we wanted to leave our mark and our unique impression upon the industry.
‘I think the tide is turning a little bit in country music, and I’m proud to say we’re part of paving the way for artists to do something a little more, to be a little edgier and do something outside the box.’
- Robert W. “Bob” McLean, a 60 year old businessman who donated Bill Monroe’s mandolin and Mother Maybelle’s guitar to the Country Music Hall of Fame, was found dead on Tuesday from a gunshot wound. A pistol was found beside his body along with a suicide note.
- This coming Saturday marks the centennial of Gene Autry’s birth and will be celebrated by a Riders in the Sky concert in Gene Autry, OK. It also gets Tom Roland to wondering whether things were really much simpler during Autry’s time as it has often been purported, or if we’re just exposed to more now because of 24/7 news.
- According to Download Squad a music service called AnywhereCD will be closing down within the next few days. AnywhereCD sells you the album and allows you to download your music (DRM free) while your actual disc is shipping. The really cool part is that for the next few days they’re having an “everything must go” sale and almost all of their albums can be picked up for $7 apiece. In the country genre alone there is 173 albums to choose from.
- In an effort to raise funds the Country Music Hall of Fame has organized their first All for the Hall New York, a guitar pull involving Vince Gill, Patty Griffin, Jewel and Trisha Yearwood that will be emceed by Ethan Hawke.
- Tune into Dancing With The Stars tonight to catch the first national TV performance of Dolly Parton singing her new single, “Better Get To Livin’”.

Cant wait to get TOBY’s Christmas CD….1995 was the last Christmas CD he did, so this one should be awesome…….
Also, is Jewel converting to Country? She sure has been rubbing elbows with alot of Country Artists lately. Interesting?

Todd Snider says he figures that Billy Joe is “some kind of prophet or something”, I figure he’s probably right.
“They’re doing whatever they have to do to make a living. I don’t fault nobody for that - but I’m doing art. I’m doing it for the sake of the art. Getting a hit record made? It’s not even in my mind. I just do what I do, and that’s it.”
Good old Billy Joe, writing art for arts sake, imagine that.
