Homer Joy just returned to "The Streets of Bakersfield" at the Crystal Palace April 13th & 14th. Played with the Buckaroos and sang "Streets with Buddy Owens"...plus presented the original lyrics of the song to the people of Bakersfield...to stay displayed at the Palace...Plus he just cut a new album called "Someday It'll Be Country" includes a duet with the late Buck Owens that has never be released before!

For me, it's a tossup between the two versions. However, I couldn't believe that the article writer called "Streets of Bakersfield" an "obscure song" before Yoakam cut it. I'm believe it went to number one for Buck (he had a number one with it twice) and would've been a signature song for him even if Dwight had never cut it. I heard Buck's solo version before I heard the duet.

I don't think I've ever heard the original Buck Owens version. I have a lot of Dwight Yoakum fanatics in my life, that probably has a lot to do with it :P

I have the Buck Owens album containing the original "Streets of Bakersfield" (AIN"T IT AMAZING GRACIE, 1973) and always preferred Buck's solo version of the song.Buck also recorded another Homer Joy song on that album "Holdin' On". After that I don't recall much from Homer
