Zwelling is the mayor of Zanesville, and he’s talking about a show with Lee Greenwood, Erika Dunlap, and Carl Russell. I wonder how big this auditorium is that he speaks of.
- The ACM awards will be having their first ever Charity Poker Tournament in Las Vegas this year. The event will be hosted by Big & Rich.
John Rich said, “We are here for the party, and the ACM’s sure know how to throw one. And having us host the inaugural tournament is both and honor and privilege to rack up some chips for charity, watch out, we are here to make some big bucks.”
- Joe Walsh, who recorded with the Eagles on their Hotel California album, will be joining Kenny Chesney for a few dates on his “Flip Flop Summer Tour.”
- Michael McCall reviewed the new Bucky Covington album. McCall says Covington delivers on the upbeat, rocker songs but his weaknesses shine through on the slow ballads. “Next time, the powers-that-be need to let this longhaired country boy rock – and leave the sensitive songs to someone with less dirt under their nails.”

The poker tournament hosted by Big and Rich sounds fun. I am always in LV the week before the ACM Awards but I get forced out during their week because they jack the lodging prices way out of range. A $150/night room goes to $500+. The ticket prices for the awards show are always way out of line too. It would be a great show, but wow, the prices.
But the week before can be a good time to catch acts in town for a little R and R. Last year we saw Sugarland at the Mandalay Bay Beach venue the Sunday before the Awards. The best value was found at Boulder Station where Phil Vassar put on a fantastic show for about 250 people. I think we paid $12 each or something. He’s back this year. Also that week is Cross Canadian Ragweed, Gary Allan (early in the week), and if you are an American Idol fan, Taylor Hicks is there too.
Vassar is worth catching. Great show and last year he hung around for over an hour to chat with as many who wanted. He says no photos, but he’s a pushover. Tiny but good venue, lots of fun. A bar, too.

Rick F. – That does indeed sound like it would be a good time, but those prices are astonishingly ludicrous.
Personally, I wouldn’t mind seeing Phil Vassar or Cross Canadian Ragweed, but Gary Allan is money. I’ve seen him twice here in Texas. Once at a covered tabernacle at an event called the Luling Watermelon Thump, and another time at a much bigger outdoor event. Both times were pretty grand, so he comes as highly recommended by me.
