Carrie Underwood Dubbed World’s Sexiest Vegetarian. World Yawns.

  • It’s been mentioned about a billion times by now, but Carrie Underwood was named the World’s Sexiest Vegetarian woman by PETA. Glancing over some of the past winners, I didn’t realize how many celebrities were vegetarians.
  • PopMatters dishes out some praise for Kelly Willis’s Translated From Love, giving it an 8 out of 10, while Black in the Saddle from Cowboy Troy flunks with a grade of 1 on the same scale.
  • According to LiveDaily, the forthcoming, yet-to-be-titled album from Hank III, said to be more on the country side, is expected to surface this fall on Curb Records.”
  • Bad news for Terri Clark fans. Her label debut for SonyBMG was scheduled to come out in late July, but has been delayed and may not come out until the fall.
  • Billboard credits Bon Jovi’s first No. 1 album since 1988 to their newfound country fanbase. Their album The Lost Highway tops the Billboard Top 200, but the Top Country Album belongs to Brad Paisley with 5th Gear. This whole Bon Jovi “country album” thing has been bizarre. It’s either really great marketing to get people talking about Bon Jovi again, or a really horrible job of pandering…but then again, there might not be much separation between the two.
  • Laurie Petricka from About.com has some audio interviews with Danielle Peck, Jack Ingram, Trent Willmon, and Chris Young from the CMA Music Festival.
  • The release of the Live from Iraq CD and DVD set from the Charlie Daniels Band gave Sean Moores at HickoryWind.org the chance to interview Mr. Daniels. When asked about labels in music and what kind of music the Charlie Daniels Band plays, Mr. Daniels responded:

Charlie Daniels Band Music. And I’m not giving you a flippant answer; it’s just a line of thought. I think what I said [on the special], and I’ll reiterate what I said, but people talk about Southern rock as if it’s a genre of music. Of course, if you want to get chauvinistic about it, and you stop and consider, all original American music came out of the South. It’s just a fact. The stuff that we [Americans] came up with came out of the South, because the blues came out of the South. There’s no doubt about that. Country music came out of the South. Rock and roll started as a combination of the two, basically.

  • The OUPBlog posted their first podcast, an interview with Ms. Autry, the second wife of Gene Autry. If audio isn’t your thing they’ve got a transcript as well in which Ms. Autry talks about Gene’s influence on later generations of musicians.
  • Some great coverage/insight from The Tennessean on the John Carter Cash memoir/tribute to his mother.

re: Carrie Underwood - Damn! That girl can’t even eat country style!

re: Carrie Underwood- How ironic. The female country singer that looks like she could use a burger the most doesn’t eat meat.

My brother and his wife are vegetarians so I don’t have anything against vegetarians (as long as they don’t force their preferences on me) but if Carrie is the sexiest vegetarian, I’ll stick with woman who eat meat because I know (and know of) a lot of them that I would consider both prettier and sexier than Carrie Underwood)

Yeah Paul, but Shania is a vegetarian too, and nobody can touch her for sexiness!

Actually, Shania wouldn’t be in my top ten - I don’t consider anorexia to be sexy; same reason I don’t think Taylor Swift is anything worth looking at
