Brad Paisley Recording Duet With Buck Owens
- The forthcoming Brad Paisley instrumental album won’t be strictly instrumentals. According to GAC, there will be three or four vocal pieces, including a duet with Buck Owens.
Brad got permission to work with the track from Buck’s company, and Brad thinks it’s “the most special thing on the record.”
“He wrote a song that works great as a duet,” Brad explains. “He played guitar, he sang on it, he did the harmony parts. It’s perfect. It’s incredibly perfectly tuned… The theme of the song is running into someone you haven’t seen in a while, and anyway, he and I are singing that to one another now on this record. And it’s really cool.”

- Peter Cooper says a whiff of country tradition carried backstage when Snoop Dogg, who donned all-black to honor his hero Johnny Cash, made an appearance. Meanwhile, Jason Aldean compared boots with Snoop and boasted that the rapper said he was a pimp.
In the midst of his interview with PEOPLE, the Father Hood star stopped mid-sentence to gape at LeAnn Rimes, who was posing for pictures nearby. “Wow – damn! Who is that?” he asked.
Upon learning her identity, Snoop gushed, “She is beautiful! Wow, wow, wow.”

On this album, you cover “Angel From Montgomery” by John Prine. What made you want to cover that song in particular? Were there other songs you considered covering for the album instead?
We never really considered covering any other songs. The Prine tune is one I had been singing for a while and we felt compelled to include it after recording it. It always gets such an amazing response at the shows, that I knew it must go on the album. - Kristen

Its great to hear about the Buck and Brad duet. And don’t forget about Buck’s duet with The Derailers (from “Full Western Dress”) on the tear jerker “Waltz of the Angels”. Something Buck and Bonnie might be doing right now….
For those Texans who need more “real country music” than the ACL is providing this year, here’s a portion of an article from AllAboutCountry that should be of interest:

Ray Wylie Hubbard and David Allan Coe will perform all week, beginning July 1.

Rick: You’re right about there being a low number of “real country” acts at the ACL festival. The variety of all kinds of country (DBT, Shooter, Bingham, Asleep at the wheel, among others) along with various forms of rock, soul and punk make the ACL Festival great, in my opinion. Most Texans have very little to complain about in the way of having a ton of chances to see great line-ups of real country acts throughout the year.

there certainly isn’t a scene out here in LA like there is in Texas, but right now I wouldn’t say that we’re shy on honky tonk talent at all.
Check out Mike Stinson, Dave Gleason, David Serby, West of Texas, Jaimi Shuey, Merle Jagger, The Lonesome Spurs, 5 o’clock somehwere, The Cheatin’ Kind, and The Road Kill Kings to start off with. There are a handful of other bands as well.
Part of the upside of being a fan when the scene has yet to really be discovered is that the shows aren’t that packed so you get to check out the bands in a low key environment.

The MTV Awards huh? Hmmmm! What does it say when that entire show made Carrie seem like one of the “traditional” artists? All you Carrie bashers may just be wishing she was still dominating as we usher in the Taylor Swift tweeny bopper era!
Taylor Swift couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket if her life depended on it. She and Miley Cyrus have the same vocal coach obviously. Next we can get some great songs about puberty and really be cranking out the hits. Cheatin’ 8th graders and virus attacks on MySpace pages. We can go for the heartbreak of the whole neekid pics over the cell phone ruining my life lyrics! Can’t wait. Now that’s hardcore country right there boy. Woo-Hoo! Sorry Chris N. but them’s the facts!
I actually liked Mayo (with apologies to Ben!) in the whole “Can You Duet?” thing. Some good talent went through that show IMHO. It’s worth another look Friday. Naomi can still melt my butter! I just call the guy on the panel “Dude”! Nice high & tight he’s sportin’ too! :-o
Would someone please tell LeeAnn Rimes to put some damn clothes on. I’m about sick of seeing her scrawny butt all over the place. What a waste! A beautiful voice and great performer turning into be a Britney wannabe! She’ll have to earn my respect back now.
At least Ashton Shepherd got the most face time of all the newbies. With a friggin’ HOUSE BAND? What was up with that?

Wow, so the title threw me off! I have a lot of family from Bakersfield and have been to the Crystal Palace a few times, including right before Buck passed away. He’s always been special to that town. You couldn’t understand a word he said there for awhile, but you could understand every word he sang. I love that. I’m interested in seeing what Brad comes up with!

Brady, the “dude in the overalls” is songwriter Rory Lee Feek. He’s written some mighty good tunes. his wife, Joey Martin has even recorded a record of her own, which is available at eMusic.com. It’s not bad. Rory is one of the writers behind songs like “The Chain Of Love,” Collin Raye’s “Someone You Used To Know,” Blaine Larsen’s “How Do You Get That Lonely,” and “Some Beach.”

In my humble opinion, “How Do You Get That Lonely” was an offense against humanity.
It was at least offensive to the country music tradition.
It’s not like country music is concerned with things like existential angst, going through a crisis of faith, or experiencing self-loathing.
and the fact that they got some kid to sing it.
man I hate that song.

I should add that I was in High School when my friend died. Thus the song made even more sense. Also, the song only works with a High School aged singer singing it, which Larsen was when he recorded it.
