Brad Paisley And Wife Name Their Baby Boy And Gretchen Wilson Biopic Reportedly Underway
- George Strait says he doesn’t look forward to traveling while he’s on tour, but he still loves performing and has no plans to quit anytime soon. He credits his band for his success and says he’ll continue to keep touring as long as the fans keep coming. In another article he admits that he’d like to try his hand at Hollywood again and what it’s like to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame during his prime.
Still, Strait said, it’s only now starting to sink in that he’s joined the legends as a member of the Hall of Fame. “I’m starting to get a little cockier, starting to treat people a little different, look down on people a little bit,” he quipped with a boisterous laugh.”
He also admits that he doesn’t know what it is about him that keeps arenas packed and people buying records.
- The frontman for Saliva is reportedly in talks to play the drummer for Gretchen Wilson in an upcoming biopic on the singer’s life. It strikes me as kind of odd that they’re making a movie about Gretchen Wilson when she’s still young and in her prime. I thought movies were generally reserved for those in their golden years and posthumously. I may be showing my ignorance as well, but can anyone tell me what exactly has been biopic worthy from Wilson’s life so far?
- Brady Paisley and his wife have named their newborn baby boy William Huckleberry Paisley.
- Patty Griffin on Emmylou Harris sining with her on “Trapeze”:
You don’t hear people of her experience singing a lot, so there’s emotion in her voice that is so rare. I hope this doesn’t sound like bullshit because I really mean it. I’m hearing things in her voice on that session that I’ve never heard before. I get really big chills. She’s tapped into stuff that you have to have lived her life to tap into. You can’t fake that stuff. She’s got this soul in her voice that gets deeper and deeper. That’s my favorite song on the record because of that performance. She brought something to it that wasn’t there.
The rest of the interview is pretty swell as well, Griffin seems to have a big personality to her. I picked up her CD in Gruene at Lone Star Music over the weekend after hearing a few songs from Kevin at Country Universe.
- I’ve watched a few episodes of American Idol and one of my favorite contestants this season is Sundance Head, son of Roy Head who wrote a hit song titled “Treat Her Right.” Barbara Mandrell went on to make the song a country hit as well. Talking about Sundance, Roy says “He loves the blues, because that’s all he’s ever been around with me, that and country. He’s said, ‘If I could phrase like anybody, it would be George Jones. George Jones can take the word “if” and make it a whole song.’ “

We've labored long and hard to come up with our list of the Top 10 Country Albums of 2008. Click here to see who claimed the honor of the year's top album, as chosen by The 9513's staff and writers.
Don’t confuse disappointing with worst, as that list would most likely be dominated by obscure indie knockoff bands along with a couple of mainstream releases. There has to be a modicum of expectation that’s dashed upon the release of an album for it to qualify for the year’s most disappointing.
Join host Kelly Dearmore as he shines the light on several noteworthy album releases you might have missed and interviews various artists, from Sarah Borges to Trent Willmon and Reckless Kelly to Wade Bowen, in the first two episode of The 9513 podcast.
Jim Malec counts down the top 20 country music news stories of 2008. How many times do you think John Rich will be mentioned?

Gretchen Wilson biopic?! That made my morning! It has to be on Lifetime: they made the Fantasia Barrino story and she’s younger than Wilson, I believe.

George Strait in another movie! That made my morning. I loved “Pure Country”, even though I don’t think he was much of an actor, he is so good looking it was fun to watch him.
I want Toby to make another movie, too, no matter that Broken Bridges didn’t get such great reviews. For gosh sake, Willie was in the final scenes of that movie, now that’s what I call a happy ending!

But what did Patty Griffin mean by: “You don’t hear people of her (Emmylou) experience singing a lot”
iho EmmyLou is the female Willie Nelson, as far as being able to sing along with anyone and make the whole project better.
Maybe I read it wrong, and she meant something like you rarely find someone who sings as well as her?

HCT - Lifetime sounds like it should be about right. But, they said it was going to be directed by the same guy who did Hustle & Flow, which I would assume would mean it’s not made for just a TV release and they have bigger plans for it.
Linda - I don’t know what she was referring to right there, it does seem a little odd.
