Brad Paisley and Keith Urban Mull Over Idea of Joint Tour
- Brad Paisley on the possibility of touring with Keith Urban: “Both of our managers, who are very good, and I think we’ll work this out,” he said. “We’ll do some shows. I don’t know how much, but we’ll do some stuff together for sure.”
- Josh Gracin’s unbelievable wife (Ann Marie) gave birth to the couple’s fourth child, daughter Isabella Sophia Gracin, on Wednesday.
- Out of 29 nominations at the CMA Awards, Kenny Chesney has only won three times other than his four entertainer of the year nods. In fact, he’s lost male vocalist seven years running and based on that information, Tom O’Neil suggests that maybe the industry is secretly dissing Chesney.
Since the CMA award is the Oscar of the Nashville music scene, it seems to be saying something curious and revealing about what the industry secretly thinks of that beer-chuckin’, back-slappin’, girl-chasin’ good ole boy: They respect Kenny Chesney as someone who can sell CDs and concert seats, but he’s not really respected as a vocal artist.
- Joe Jonas addressed his split with Taylor Swift, and some of the comments she has made, in his MySpace blog.
- Justin Townes Earle wrapped up the recording on his new album, Midnight at the Movies, and it’ll be released next March on Bloodshot Records.
- Crystal Shawanda scored trophies for “Best Country CD,” “Best New Artist” and “Single of the Year” at the 2008 Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards held last Friday. (via NashvilleGab)
- Despite being down from previous years, the CMA Awards helped ABC dominate the ratings on Wednesday night.
- Billy Mata, a practitioner of western swing, began a tribute project for Tommy Duncan more than two years ago:
Blending the smooth crooners of the day with a bit of twang, Duncan — lead singer of Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys from the mid-1930s until World War II — was credited with helping the band appeal to a wider audience.
Mata thinks so, too.
The first of his three CD tribute, This Is Tommy Duncan, Volume One, was recently released and focuses on Duncan’s years with Bob Wills.
“He never quite got the praise and recognition that he deserved,” Mata said. “A lot of people don’t know that Bob Wills didn’t do all the singing. This is sort of an educational tribute to Tommy Duncan.”
- Andy Whitman dubs Darrell Scott’s Modern Hymns the best Bluegrass album of 2008.
- Jewel told Access Hollywood’s CMA correspondent Maureen McCormick that she’ll be reducing the price of her album Perfectly Clear to one dollar for Black Friday and will be giving the proceeds to the Country Music Hall of Fame. (via reader email)

- Asleep at the Wheel’s Ray Benson glazes over politics and discusses the paradigm shift in country music in an exclusive video interview with KVUE News inside his recording studio. He believes playing in the honky tonks and dancehalls gives artists an appreciation of what country music is and was, but believes there are many ways to make it in the business and sticks up for Carrie Underwood, who he says has a great sense of the history of country music.
- The fact that there’s only one country song on McSweeney’s list “Fifty Years of Popular Songs Condensed Into Single Sentences” doesn’t make it any less amusing.

I don’t go to that many country shows, but I’d definitely save up some scratch to see Brad and Keith together. McSweeney’s list is hilarious: “Kings of Leon – Sex on Fire: I did it with you, and now it hurts when I pee.” I hate lol’ing but lol. Thanks for the P’crap pub.

Will those $1 Jewel CDs count as units sold? The CD is probably not going to go gold, but if it did get into that sales range, would deeply discounted units count toward the total?

A fair point. Assuming the reduction results in multiplying the sales by the same factor the price/profit has been reduced by… And if it’s based on profits rather than gross proceeds, I can’t imagine much making its way to the Hall of Fame’s bank account.

Maybe the time has come for Kenny Chesney to look at his musical sound and get back to the country sound and not the Caribbean sound that is pretty much in all his songs. I really think people are getting tired of that. Lets see Kenny get to the heart of his country music and sounds that there should be. This is my opinion and i approved this message……..

Andy Whitman’s comments about the Darrell Scott album “Modern Hymns” starts off with:
“Darrell Scott’s Modern Hymns gets my vote for “Best Bluegrass Album of 2008″. Here “bluegrass” is used loosely, and is a catch-all term for music anchored by acoustic guitars, fiddles, and dobros. It certainly doesn’t fit within the fairly narrow strictures of the genre.” WOW, then why even label it a “bluegrass album” at all? By Andy’s definition I’d proclaim Joey + Rory’s “Life of a Song” as “Best Bluegrass Album of the Year”! Crikey, mate…..
Tommy Duncan fans definitely include The Quebe Sisters Band and their leader Joey McKenzie. At most Quebe Sisters concerts they perform a song from Tommy’s solo career as “The Tommy Duncan All Stars” and encourage people to buy the LP if they ever come across it at a garage sale or swap meet.
Trailer’s revised album titles continue to be a certified “hoot” at PhotoCrap and are always worth the read.

I laughed out loud three times: the Unbelievable (Ann Marie) line, Photocrap (Brooks & Dunn: Template was my favorite), and “50 Years of Popular Songs” (really not what I thought it was going to be about). At $1 per CD,there aren’t going to be any net profits. I would imagine that it has to be gross proceeds.

Keith deserved Entertainer of the Year, I saw him in concert in Lexington, Ky. Rupp was sold out and he totally rocked the place. I totally do not like Kenny Chesney, he only sounds like a Beach Bum and he made a slobbering fool of himself over Shania at the awards. Keith, when the fans get to vote, then you’ll be the winner, at the People’s Choice Awards, whatever that is in Country music.

Funny thing You say Keith sold out in Lexington Ky. but he couldn’t sell out Knoxville Tn. I went to the Knoxville show like I say he’s good but not as good as Kenny live. JMO!

Tommy Duncan was a great vocal artist although he seemingly needed Bob Wills to get the best out of himself. Tommy’s solo efforts are not in the same class as his efforts as a Texas Playboy
A Paisley/Urban tour would be interesting. I doubt their fan bases overlap much

Katie, what’s to learn from Kenny Chesney, since he’s stolen all his gimmicks from Jimmy Buffett!Half of Kenny’s fans don’t even know where they are during the concert because they are so drunk. Kenny doesn’t do a concert, he throws a big drunkfest. I read a review of one of Kenny’s “concerts” and the reviewer said he doubted half the people there knew who was on stage and what they were singing. Kenny’s label has just gotten him where he is, definitely not his singing. Keith Urban is way more talented than Kenny ever thought about. It was so obvious at the CMAs. I use to go to Kenny’s concerts and then Keith toured with him and I found out what real talent was.

Margie, I dout you’ve been to a Jimmy Buffett show or you’d no it’s nothing like a Kenny show.
I’ve seen Keith like I say he’s good but not the best. I’ve seen Brad he’s good but not the best.
They all have talent in there own way. Kenny may not play guitar like Keith or Brad but he can sing and connect with a huge stadium full like no one else. That is a real ENTERTAINER to me. JMO!!

Katie, I didn’t say KC’s concerts were like JB’s! KC tries to be, but without any success. Well, I’ve seen Kenny and he, to me, is not the best and I’m glad because it would be a shame. If KC is a good singer, then why has he never won Male Vocalist, both Keith and Brad have. Also he’s never won a Grammy or been nominated like Keith and Brad have. Katie, filling a stadium does not a great entertainer make. Kenny throws a party, not really a concert and it’s not really about the music. If he didn’t have several big names with him, I seriously doubt he could fill them by himself. But for me, I don’t care for stadium shows. Glad you like Kenny, but thankful I’m a Keith Urban fan.
