Bob Dylan Writing Unfinished Hank Williams Lyrics
- Bill Friskics-Warren describes Josh Turner’s Everything Is Fine as flashbacks of Don Williams’ romance and commitment laced material mixed with some heartache and country-soul chops.
- Carrie Underwood took home three trophies at the American Music Awards while Beyonce wowed the crowd with Sugarland on the “bluegrass” flavored version of “Irreplaceable”. (YouTube)

- Kellie Pickler. Red carpet. American Music Awards. Classy or trashy? Who cares.
- All you East Coasters mark your calendars. Starting December 3rd in Ruston, Louisiana the fearlessly staunch troubadours Drew Kennedy and Josh Grider will be touring your area together. Consider me envious.
- When Hank Williams died he had several sheets of unfinished lyrics in his briefcase — which Bob Dylan has acquired. According to a source, Dylan plans on finishing out some of those lyrics and tapped Jack White to do one of the songs.
- Listen to a new tune from Keith Urban’s greatest-hits collection. The song, “Romeo’s Tune”, is a cover of a 1979 hit by Steve Forbert.
- One of the readers of Still Is Still Moving says she left the 1980 Willie picnic with something very special, even though it didn’t come until nine months later.
- The Lost Highway is lovin’ the new album from Little Big Town.
Little Big Town may have been a major label’s ‘wet dream’ to bring pop to country but when left to their own devices (and making more money because of it) the band shows that there was room for a truly unique band that blends traditional country and rock music into a cohesive package worth listening to over and over again.
- In light of the writer’s strike Garth Brooks canceled his TV appearances on Ellen and The View.
His publicist said, “This is the first time in many years that he has not done television in support of his music. His first appearance on television was to have been The Tonight Show, however the strike happened that day. We believe he is the first artist with product in the marketplace to not have the support of these appearances. Garth is proud of the position he has taken since he hopes to be a writer in the not too distant future.”
Am I the only one a little bit confused by that statement?
- This year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade will be led by none other than Dolly Parton, who will sing her new single “better get to Livin’”.
- Wayne “The Train” Hancock joins the It Burns When I Pee podcast for episode #0009.
- Doug Freeman has the story of Sam Baker in 1986 aboard a train that would have departed to Maccu Picchu. Instead — while Baker talked to the German family next to him — a red backpack in the luggage rack above his head silently ticked away. That was, until the explosion.

I think I can clear up the confusion on the Garth Brooks comment in four words: Chris Gaines – The Series.

seriously, who cares what that garth brooks statement means? his ‘product’ is always the bottom line. product product product. and in 6 months, there will be a cd set of his last 9 shows. yada yada yada. blah blah blah. insert marketing strategy here. insert platitude designed to endear you to middle american housewives and nascar dads. and kill me.

I never thought about Josh Turner and Don Williams being comparable before, but I can see the similarities. I like the comparison.
There are so many odd things to point out about the Sugarland/Beyonce performance. I thought it was weird that Sugarland was introduced as CMA award winners. Those pants make Jennifer Nettles legs look 10 feet long, and that performance can hardly be called bluegrass. I guess the press was willing to run with it because Beyonce said it.
Kellie Pickler seems willing to do whatever it takes to get attention. The stupid act on American Idol, the tears at the Opry and the CMA’s and now this risqué dress. I wonder what she’ll resort to if/when her career tanks.

Mikeky, I’d be peeing myself laughing if I wasn’t shaking my head in agreement with you.

thanks, peter. :) i aim to please.
sugarland’s performance of that beyonce debacle last night left me…well, cold. jennifer nettle’s voice just grates on me. her vocals sound cartoonish–the country inflections are so pronounced, they don’t feel real anymore. they feel affected. like she’s trying to sound country, rather than just be…you know, country. it feels and sounds fake. just my opinion.
with that said, i give them credit for doing the song. just for showing we all listen to all kinds of music and every genre has validity. props for that.

“Those pants make Jennifer Nettles legs look 10 feet long…”
My girlfriend informs me that low-rise pants are on the way out, and apparently this is what’s going to replace them. It makes me sad.
