- Blake Shelton on his more defiant attitude of late:
“One thing we’re doing that we probably haven’t done is showcase the … ‘I don’t give a (expletive) if you like it or not’ attitude,” Shelton says. “It’s puzzled me why country artists have to be so politically correct. I mean I’m not a politician. If I’m going to sing about drinking and raising hell then you have to know deep down inside that’s what I do. I’m just more open about it lately, and it’s amazing the reaction to that. People either love me or hate me. But it’s the first time they are noticing, which is awesome for me. I’m loving it. I can show you some people on Twitter that hate me. They are probably tree-hugging, card-carrying members of PETA that can kiss my (expletive) anyway.”

“Crunchy, guitar-driven rock music with hick-flavored lyrics is my calling card, but it wouldn’t be a Jason Aldean album without a vaguely menacing, clearly-overcompensating-for-something title,” says Aldean. “People don’t think about it, but the title is real important. It’s something we’ll have to tour behind for a year and print on t-shirts and stuff, so when it comes to finding the right name, we’re giving it our all. Hmm… Giving It My All? Nah, not tough enough.”

Blake Shelton wins the “Best Quote of the Day” award for: “They are probably tree-hugging, card-carrying members of PETA that can kiss my (expletive) anyway.” Right on brother! (lol)
Wow, I can’t think of any artist more deserving of a spot on the “Music City Walk of Fame” than Kid Rock! That’s just awesome! (lol)
I hope Becky Schlegel picks better songs for her new album as the previous one was quite lackluster. Becky needs to get herself back onto A Prairie Home Companion and soon!
I think Carolwood will be the first of the “Imprint” boutique labels to be folded back into their main label creators. Starting extra cost/personnel side labels during a period of shrinking music sales just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. At least with Republic Nashville Scott Borchetta used it as a means to split his costs and risks with another label group. It does appear Jessica Andrews has been quietly dropped from the Carolwood/Lyric Street label without so much as a whimper…

“Dolly Parton, Ernest Tubb, Kid Rock, Tootsie Bess, and Charlie Daniels.”
Which of these is not like the other?

Rick: Kind of makes you wonder what exactly Blake has against Emmylou Harris.
November 4, 2009 at 11:40 am Permalink
Stormy, did he actually insult Ms. Emmylou? I didn’t see that in the article-but it would be close to sacrilegious in my book.
November 4, 2009 at 11:46 am Permalink
No, Stormy was just stretching/embelishing to make her point.
I do think Blake Shelton is out of hand on his twitter. It’s his right and I actually don’t care that he’s revealing his “true self”, but the way that he responds to people (with childish retorts equal to “I know you are, but what am I?”) is rather juvenile. At first I thought his snark was funny, but it crossed a line to downright nasty quite awhile ago.

I have never understood the appeal of Twitter, but it fits into the general trend of modern society-in-depth analysis being replaced by sound bites.

Blake Shelton, outlaw. Raising hell on……twitter?
hahahahahaha, now that’s funny. I don’t think Country CA or Trailer could come up with that stuff.
Which one is Blake Shelton anyway….I’m thinking black hat, meticulously trimmed goatee at times….tight black t-shirt…..damn I just described every male country artist from the late 90’s

If you’re gonna raise hell, I think Twitter is a fine place to do it.

I agree with Leeann that much of Blake’s Twitter stuff is just overboard – not in terms of his beliefs, but with his behavior toward fans. I still prefer that to the boringly nice persona most mainstream country people project, but even shock-value humor needs a degree of temperance to it. Seems like people sometimes get so excited about the chance to “be themselves” that they over-act their own personal qualities, if that makes sense.
Anyway, thanks for the plug!

Steve: Blake was trying to play the tired old “country music is red state and all them blue state liberals don’t get us country folks” game. The problem with that is that country music is red state and blue state and most true country outlaws fall on both sides of those lines.
This defines Emmylou Harris
tree-hugging, card-carrying members of PETA
And she is about 85% more bad ass than Blake Shelton ever though about being. You can tell because she doesn’t spend all of her time on Twitter trying to convince people she is bad ass.

Would Waylon have Twittered?
November 4, 2009 at 3:42 pm Permalink
Jessica Andrews has been removed as one of the artists from the industry site I visit for Lyric Street (and former Carolwood) stuff.
November 4, 2009 at 3:53 pm Permalink
Jessica was dropped last month.

Leeann said: “At first I thought his snark was funny, but it crossed a line to downright nasty quite awhile ago.” You know, I have absolutely no problem with that! (lol)
Jessica Andrews should have gotten into good enough physical condition to be featured on the cover of “Shape” magazine before attempting her comeback. What was she thinking? (lol)
Chris, Waylon just doesn’t strike me as the twittering type. Does Jamey Johnson twitter? Hmm…
November 4, 2009 at 5:00 pm Permalink
Jamey Johnson definitely sends out Twitter-like posts on Facebook. Not sure about Twitter itself, though.
November 4, 2009 at 5:01 pm Permalink
Not surprised, Rick.
November 4, 2009 at 5:13 pm Permalink
Jamey Johnson does twitter, although not often.

“Would Waylon have Twittered?
Jamey Johnson does twitter, although not often.”
Not sure I like this implication that badasses don’t Twitter. The little blue bird is for uniting, not separating.
November 4, 2009 at 5:38 pm Permalink
Its not that badasses don’t twitter, its just that they twitter about the badass things they actually did instead of twittering about how badass they are. Like when Miranda Twittered about buying a gun and a bikini at the same store–THAT was badass.
November 4, 2009 at 6:04 pm Permalink
Stormy, did Miranda’s bikini have a holster built into it? Hmm…
November 4, 2009 at 6:16 pm Permalink
Tweet, not twitter, dammit.
November 4, 2009 at 7:52 pm Permalink
Stormy,
After reading a biography of Gram Parsons, I would 100% that Emmylou Harris is more badass then Blake Shelton. Anyone who could survive a relationship with someone that self destructive is a a total bad ass.
November 4, 2009 at 7:54 pm Permalink
Jon,
Why isn’t it Twittered? Is tweet the preferred nomenclature?
November 4, 2009 at 10:51 pm Permalink
You tweet a tweet on Twitter. Just sayin’…
November 5, 2009 at 10:18 am Permalink
Umm, Blake…shooting defenseless animals and dropping f-bombs doesn’t make you a badass. It’s comforting to know that this moron’s career will expire in the next 18 months or so.
November 5, 2009 at 10:26 am Permalink
I think Blake’s been hanging out with John Rich or something. There’s a difference between being “Bad ass” and just an “ass”.
November 5, 2009 at 10:28 am Permalink
Cardsgal: You’re right! You have to shoot at the animals that can fight back to be a badass.

Kid Rock amongst those to be honored in the Music City Walk of Fame.
—Once again a lame attempt by the powers that be to reach for what they view as legitimacy in the music world. Those in Nashville should dance with the ones that brought them. I am not saying Kid Rock is not a fantastic musical force, but NOT in country. He is a pop/rock act that has crossed over to the country bunch with a few acoustic based tunes. It is not his fault, but it seems like the only thing he did for the Nashville Music Community to start sucking his balls was buy a condo here and spend a few times a year here. Of course, the Nashville Music Row folks do that to every act that is more successful/creative than those they already have.
Carrolwood closes…
—-Not surprising. I am reminded of the opening “prayer” at the CRS New Faces Show a few years ago when it was asked, “Will Lyric Street break another act other than Rascal Flatts??” So far…looks like NO.
