Blake Shelton Wields Newly Acquired Superpowers On Streets of New York
- After being named one of People’s sexiest men, Blake Shelton hit the streets of New York with a camera in tow to find out what new superpowers he possessed and concluded that life will never be the same.
- Darryl Worley told Music City TV’s Brad Schmitt that he and Trace Adkins once brawled in a California hotel room.
“We locked horns pretty good,” Darryl said, laughing.
“We’re just having a big ol’ party, ya know. We’re two Alphas, man! It was one of those tests of will and strength, ya know,” Darryl said.
The real victim — the hotel room.
- Willie Nelson and Asleep at the Wheel will go on a joint-tour in support of their new album, which will be released in February 2009.
- Juli Thanki reviewed Boots, Buckles & Spurs: 50 Songs Celebrate 50 Years of Cowboy Tradition, a new box set that celebrates the 50th anniversary of the National Finals Rodeo with some of the best cowboy songs ever recorded. She says the only real sin is the omission of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans‘ collaboration on the cowboy classic “Happy Trails,” and the inclusion of Montgomery Gentry’s cover of Bon Jovi 1987 classic “Wanted Dead or Alive” and “When Cowboys Didn’t Dance” by Lonestar.
- Nickel Creek songwriter/fiddler Sarah Watkins will release her solo-debut on April 7 through Nonesuch.
- Kenny Chesney’s former publicist, Holly Gleason, was honored on Monday by BMI for her part in writing “Better As A Memory.” After completing the song with Travis Hill, Gleason, using the pseudonym Lady Goodman, left it on Chesney’s bed in his tour bus as a “lullaby” to help him wind down from his performances. Chesney, supposedly unaware of Gleason’s involvement, thought it was a great song and cut it for his Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates album.

- In the latest edition of Galleywinter’s “Off The Cuff” feature, several artists and advocates of the Texas/Red Dirt scene answer the question: “Musically speaking, what artist are you most thankful for?”
- Rural Rhythm Records plans to release a Michael Martin Murphey bluegrass album titled Buckaroo Blue Grass on February 10. It will include several new songs alongside some of his classics with help from Sam Bush, Ronnie McCoury, and Rhonda Vincent among others. Murphey’s son Ryan produced the album, wrote all the arrangements, sang harmony vocals and played rhythm guitar.
- Ninebullets.net did some investigating to find out why the online mail order company Miles of Music closed down, and whether there was any truth behind the allegations that artists were getting screwed.

That Blake Shelton video is high-larious.

I signed up for Joey + Rory’s e-mail newsletter and their latest one said this:
“We just found out that if the single (Cheater Cheater) makes it to the top 30 by the end of the year…they say that we’d be eligible for an ACM nomination for Duo of the Year this spring. We can’t imagine that…but who knows!! Come on #30!”
Is that how it usually works for new artists? They need a certain height single to get a nomination? It just struck me as interesting…

Excellent news from Sarah Watkins.
Side note.. I’m blanking.. what’s the name of that all female bluegrass(?) group that had a video all over CMT & GAC (when they actually play videos) where the girls were in a coffee shop and were fighting off enemies (ninja!) and line dancing? Can’t even find it via google. I’m useless tonight!

If Blake Shelton had not divorced his first wife and hooked-up with Miranda Lambert would “People” magazine have even known who he is or cared? I doubt it. The NYC video is a good laugh as Blake can be so irreverent and nonsensical at times like when he hosts the Fan Fair Riverfront Stage concert segments on GAC.
So Sarah Watkins has now signed to the same label as Chris Thile. There seems to be a pattern developing here…(lol)
I like cowboy music but 50 songs is a bit much. In fact its way too much! Cowboy music was one of the most popular genres in the US back in the 30’s and 40’s due to the singing cowboy movies (and non-singing westerns) popular at the time. Nowadays its a teensy little musical niche supported at festivals and gatherings around the country by artists who do it for love of the music as they sure aren’t gonna make big bucks at it.

Ooops. The above post was supposed to be:
Marc, that video was from the band “Uncle Earl” and the gals financed it out of their own pockets. Uncle earl member Kristin Andreassen (who loves to clog dance) was featured on last week’s Prairie Home Companion show.

That can’t be true because Halfway To Hazard was nominated last year and they didn’t have a top 30.

Well that’s what Joey and Rory said, maybe it’s changed recently? Or maybe it was specifically regarding them.

Asleep At The Wheel and Willie Nelson are collaborating on an album? Or Willie is just touring with AATW for AATW’s new album? Either way, good news.

Rick’s Random Thanksgiving Tidbits:
Amy Dalley posted a wonderful Thanksgiving themed journal entry on her website this week that is truly heart warming. Its well worth a read:

PS – I hadn’t really listened to Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” song until today when it came on the radio (KHAY 100.7 FM Ventura, CA) and I was shocked at how much Taylor’s voice in the opening verses sounds like Amy Dalley! Maybe Taylor could hire Amy to sit offstage at Taylor’s concerts and sing the songs so Taylor could lip-synch and focus on her jumping, boot stomping, and hair tossing…

Think of all the great songs and records that could
have been made with the money that was spent on another sound alike Blonde Clairol model who can’t hold a note without studio trickery..Taylor Swift.
Candy cartoon country is alive and well in Nashville.
Go to youtube.com and type in “I’m not Lisa” by Jessi Colter from a live TV show. WOW ! We have seriously lowered the bar. Sorry kids, you get crap.
