I’ve commented on Billy Yates before - he is a superlative songwriter, engaging performer and an interesting and down-to-earth personality. If only American audiences could move away from the “handsome hunks and gorgeous gals” mentality that currently dominates the Nashville scene

Speaking of Aussie crooner Adam Harvey, he is leading another tour to the CMA Music Fest this year and will be performing during the Opry’s special Saturday afternoon matinee. Adam came to North America a couple of years ago to secure distribution deals and landed one in Canada but the Nashville labels scoffed and responded “maybe in a couple of years”…. Adam has been touring Australia since the January Tamworth Festival and has featured former RCA Nashville artist Catherine Britt as the opening act as she has scored two # 1 radio and music video (CMC channel) hits down under with both “Little Wildflower” and “What I Did Last Night”. Seems the Aussie’s really like the sound producer Brett Beavers nailed on Catherine’s “Little Wildflower” album.

OFF Topic Alert: I think The 9513’s blog links are a bit too Texas oriented and need a little more Nashville influence! I recommend a fun blog that is Nashville specific and not necessarily totally focused on country music and features pictures that readers send in. The bloggers sense of humor doesn’t hurt either….

(PS - I love the mug shots of Chris Cagle and his girlfriend taken after the recent altercation, and the article about his upcoming court appearance possibly interfering with his Fan Fair Fanclub Party! I hear Caglehead fanclub members will be able to choose either a purse or umbrella as a souvenir, or possibly psychotropic medications! lol )

Billy Yates should look into China as well. Adam Harvey did so well there that he translated an entire album into Chinese to meet the market demand.

Years ago when Top 40 country radio turned its back on newer traditional artists Billy Yates got so fed up he started his own label and concentrated on Europe and Japan. Its nice to see his strategy has finally paid off. Billy used to shun Fan Fair as being the embodiment of everything wrong with the commercial Nashville music machine, but this year he will be performing at the Ernest Tubb Record Shop (with Sunny Sweeney) during the festival. Billy is one of the finest traditional country songwriters still active in the business.

Its nice Sony-BMG has found some vintage album artwork to sell as their music hasn’t been doing so well lately…..

As for Nashville Star, will John Rich show up in his full length fur coat making outrageous comments about people’s sexual preferences? I personally don’t care much for “Sir John The Arrogant” and I try to avoid pretty much everything he is involved with. I was disappointed to see John produced Randy Owen’s new solo album that will be released in the fall on the Broken Bow label. Oh well….

I have said it a million times. I LOVE THE MOTHER TRUCKERS! This new disc is better than the first one even. It has an attitude to it that is sorely lacking in most country music.
