Met JMM at a radio station in Phila(WXTU). The nicest man you ever want to meet. He sang a few songs in the studio…..it wasn’t good. He couldn’t hit many notes…keeping in mind it was 9am, still wasn’t good. We were big fans and still very disappointed. He talked with us about a 1/2 an hour at breakfast, and he really has had a tough time in recent years, lots of surgeries, drug abuse due to the meds he was on for his health problems, and just overall bad luck and he’s getting very little in the way of respect. He even told us the hotel gave his room away before he got there, but he did say he was able to get the bus driver a room and he(John Michael) voluntarily slept in the bus. Like I said, really nice guy and I wish him success, but his voice was pretty rough. Hope he makes a comeback, he deserves it.

Really dislike his brother also, can’t stand the guy or his music.

Speaking of guns, is The 9513 going to review the new Pat Garrett song “Moose Shootin’ Mama” about Sarah Palin? Hmmmm……

Rick’s Random Tidbits: I like Kasey and Shane’s new album but I still contend there is a lack of stylistic variety among far too many of the songs. At the same time I received “Rattlin Bones” I also got Kimber Sparks’ “Its Her Turn” and due to Bill Chambers’ production and co-writing skills I much prefer Kimber’s album. I will still be listening to Kimber’s CD long after Kasey’s “Bones” have gotten buried in my piles of CD’s…..

Emily West: I just acquired an advance copy of Emily West’s self-titled debut album and was really disappointed. I think Emily is a great gal and I like her vocals BUT her debut album sounds like Miranda Lambert mixed with Faith Hill and then processed through the Nashville Mainstream Music Machine sytem. I like the slow ballads where Emily’s vocals shine but she sounds generic on most of the up tempo stuff. I didn’t hear anything that sounded even remotely like a beakthrough radio hit in today’s Top 40 environment on the album. I can’t see Emily being kept on the Capitol roster much longer unless she records some much stronger material….

PS – Amber Digby’s new “Passion, Pride, and What Might Have Been…” kicks some serious Texas honky tonkin’ ass……

Oh, and BTW: Why is it okay for Dick Cheney to shoot people in the face, but when Billy Joe Shaver does it, all of a sudden its come kind of crime?

I think JMM has has some serious medical issues. I’m not sure what exactly but I seem to remember reading that somewhere. Even at that, JM’s bad days are better than Eddie’s good days – musically speaking.

I would just like to say that in his new video, John Michael Montgomery looks like a sad and uncomfortable man. He lacks any spark of his old self. I always liked him and his music back when he was on the top of the charts, and not his brother. I hope music has not become a burden to him.
