That Lonestar review is right-on. I’ve seen them in concert twice. While they’re not the most country group in the world and their shows are formulaic and at times cheesy, it’s the kind of group that you can see cheaply (I never paid more than the general admission to the fair/festival they were playing), take the whole family, have a good time and still look yourself in the mirror in the morning. Their best days are behind them, but I’ll be sorry to see McDonald go.

He is nice guy though :-) I attended one of his shows just over a week ago and got the feeling that some stuff was going on in his personal life that wasn’t too pleasant, maybe that has something to do with it (he made a number of rather strange comments that he usually does not make, alluding to his second wife being, well, “untrue”). Who knows, it really is all speculation at this point. But I sincerely hope that it’ll turn out that he is not connected to anything… I really like the guy and hope he’ll be around for a while doing what he’s doing best.

Good point. I just finished reading his autobiography this weekend and he has always maintained a relationship with a highly respected lawyer in Austin, although I don’t remember his name. But still, I guess it doesn’t make sense to have a lawyer speak on your behalf unless you were afraid of being caught. Also, after reading his book this doesn’t seem like something that would be too far-fetched for Shaver to be involved in.

But one must wonder why Billy Joe retained a high-powered criminal defense attorney then. Being a huge fan of Billy Joe’s, it would make me extremely sad to think that he is connected to a shooting like this ut it’s not like the man is exactly rich and could afford an attorney for “just in case”. I guess more details will come out eventually…
