Billy Joe Shaver “Connected” To Shooting And Dolly Parton Fantasizes About Women
- Billy Joe Shaver has been linked to a shooting at a bar in the suburbs of his hometown, Waco. After reading the article I don’t see where the connection is being made. Everyone involved in the case is being hush-hush about the details. It could be that Shaver was merely present at the bar where the shooting took place and that somehow links him to the crime.
“I thought it was a firecracker. (The victim) came walking back in with his hand on his cheek and had blood all over his face. Then I guess the (shooter) ran and got in his car and took off.”
- CMT Insider has an interview with Tim McGraw. He discusses last year’s tour, turning 40, and the album he released last week, Let It Go.
I love “Let It Go.” In fact, I can’t get it out of my head. Why is this the title track?
It just made sense. … You start collecting baggage your whole life, and it starts building up and building up and building up, and you reach a point where you know you’re not a kid anymore, but you don’t know everything, either. And the only way to move forward is to kind of cut some things loose. That’s kind of where everybody gets to at this point in their life, I think, and it sort of made sense for my record.
- Dolly Parton is currently touring in Europe where The Buzzard reports she has been opening up to magazines about her sex life and leaving Europeans questioning her sexuality.
And, in one chat, she pokes fun at her husband of 40 years by stating she has to think of others when she’s making love to him. Parton says, “When I have sex with my husband these days, I fantasize I am with someone like Keith Urban or a petite, hot young woman.”
- J. Edward Keyes wrote a Lonestar concert review from last Friday in Westbury. Keyes says “even when they sing absolute hokum — and Friday night, they sang little else — they’re impossible to resist.”
- Justin Gage at Hickorywind calls the Steve Earle solo show, dedicated to Townes Van Zandt, the highlight of 2007 SXSW.

But one must wonder why Billy Joe retained a high-powered criminal defense attorney then. Being a huge fan of Billy Joe’s, it would make me extremely sad to think that he is connected to a shooting like this ut it’s not like the man is exactly rich and could afford an attorney for “just in case”. I guess more details will come out eventually…

Good point. I just finished reading his autobiography this weekend and he has always maintained a relationship with a highly respected lawyer in Austin, although I don’t remember his name. But still, I guess it doesn’t make sense to have a lawyer speak on your behalf unless you were afraid of being caught. Also, after reading his book this doesn’t seem like something that would be too far-fetched for Shaver to be involved in.

He is nice guy though :-) I attended one of his shows just over a week ago and got the feeling that some stuff was going on in his personal life that wasn’t too pleasant, maybe that has something to do with it (he made a number of rather strange comments that he usually does not make, alluding to his second wife being, well, “untrue”). Who knows, it really is all speculation at this point. But I sincerely hope that it’ll turn out that he is not connected to anything… I really like the guy and hope he’ll be around for a while doing what he’s doing best.

so, Keith Urban = petite, hot young woman? I can see it. So where does leave Porter Wagner in the equation?

That Lonestar review is right-on. I’ve seen them in concert twice. While they’re not the most country group in the world and their shows are formulaic and at times cheesy, it’s the kind of group that you can see cheaply (I never paid more than the general admission to the fair/festival they were playing), take the whole family, have a good time and still look yourself in the mirror in the morning. Their best days are behind them, but I’ll be sorry to see McDonald go.
