Billy Joe Shaver Charged In Shooting Incident And Marty Robbins To Be Honored By Hall Of Fame

  • Austin360 republished a great article that pretty much details Billy Joe Shaver’s book and offers a couple of scenarios that weren’t discussed at all during the book.

If you ever have occasion to sit a spell with Shaver, ask him about his prankish habit of writing letter grades on Townes Van Zandt’s lyric sheets when his friend wasn’t looking. Or about the time he wickedly taunted Waylon Jennings — who never got over his fear of flying after nearly being on the ill-fated flight that killed Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper — by gleefully singing the Bopper’s “Chantilly Lace” as they boarded another small plane.

  • More news has surfaced on the Billy Joe Shaver shooting case. It’s now being reported that Shaver is being charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm in an establishment where alcohol is served. Shaver’s attorney claims the other man was in possession of a knife and was the aggressor. A warrant has been issued, but the attorney hasn’t seen it yet and says that Shaver will surrender when he does.

  • The Country Music Hall of Fame will be honoring Marty Robbins with an exhibition called “Marty Robbins: Among My Souvenirs.” The article goes on to touch on the highlights of Robbins’ career.
  • Big Kenny from Big & Rich wrote the hit single “Last Dollar (Fly Away)” on Tim McGraw’s latest album, and tells the story of how the song came to be.

With the ever present worry of not being able to pay rent, Big Kenny decided to hit a black jack table in hopes of making it big. After winning nearly $1,000 dollars, Kenny put all of his chips in, only to lose everything except $21.00. Leaving the dealer with a generous $20.00 tip, Kenny took the last dollar that he had to his name and left the casino.

  • Alan Jackson’s wife, Denise Jackson, has written a book titled It’s All About Him: Finding the Love of My Life. The book recounts the near-failure of her marriage to Alan, who wrote the foreword and recorded two songs to go on a bonus disc with the book. The memoir is due in July.
