- Brad Paisley had a successful 2008, but The Tennessean’s Cindy Watts says he hopes to use those successes as a springboard for a more triumphant 2009 and to take a stab at snatching Kenny Chesney’s entertainer of the year award.

- Brian T. Atkinson published a brief Q&A with Justin Townes Earle on Austin360.com leading up to his Cactus Cafe debut last night.
The Cactus is Townes’ ground zero. Is that inspiring or intimidating?
It doesn’t intimidate me. I mean, I’ve played at Madison Square Garden. I’m not often intimidated by a place or by people. But the real big Townes fans or the real big Steve Earle fans can be kind of freaky. I don’t need some lunatic girl telling me what a great man my father is. I know. - Country music continues to lead other music genres on the radio airwaves with 2,024 stations, but it fell to the news/talk format as the most popular.

- Based on Taylor Swift’s rider, she likes her some Starbucks–but only if it’s available by 11:00 a.m. (via Country Music Tattle Tale)
- Mary Bufwack has Kitty Wells and Emmylou Harris join her to profile Wells’ 1952 hit “It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels,” which was recently added to the National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress.

- When the three Heisman finalists (Colt McCoy, Tim Tebow and Sam Bradford) went to lunch, it wasn’t football they talked about.
“We were talking about different country music artists that we like and some guys that we wanted to meet and stuff like that,” Tebow said. “It was good, just getting to know each other.”
Bradford and McCoy were throwing out some names that Tebow didn’t know. He knew Pat Green, though, and there was plenty of discussion about Kenny Chesney — one of Tebow’s good buddies. They were bugging Tebow about getting them concert tickets.

Wow, I appreciate it when artists offer up more than typical, benign and safe answers, but ol’ Justin Townes Earle sounds more than a bit like a punk in that interview…

I didn’t get a punk vibe at all from the interview, but if you think that’s punkish, just wait until you hear the song on his new album that he wrote about his parents. He admitted up front that it was a little one-sided.
Brady and I caught his Cactus Cafe show last night and it was one of the best I’ve ever seen.

i didnt get that vibe from the whole interview i guess, but the answers that dealt with his dad seemed to be a bit punk-like to me…
having said that, you know how jealous i am about not getting to see that show last night…

Regarding: “Country music continues to lead other music genres on the radio airwaves with 2,024 stations, but it fell to the news/talk format as the most popular.” Well just wait for Chairman O. and his Democrat apparatchiks in Congress to revive the Orwellian “NewSpeak” style “Fairness Doctrine” for terrestial radio stations to drastically reduce conservative talk radio shows. I haven’t ever really seriously considered XM/Sirius, but if Rush Limbaugh winds up there I’d probably go for it…..
Its nice that Scott Borchetta is still supporting Danielle Peck’s career at Big Machine. Most any other label would have set her free by now.
Thanks for the link to the chat including Kitty Wells and Emmylou Harris. Kitty is not going to be around forever, so its good to hear any of her thoughts on country music.

Rick,
According to her myspace she’s unsigned.

Kelly: I kind of got the same kind of vibe you get from Rosanne Cash–that the Steve Earle/Johnny Cash we love is a vastly different and more simplified person than the one that they love ergo we have a different and more simple relationship.
Also, someone who is attending a Tim McGraw concert soon, I will pay you cash money to smack him.

I wonder if JTE was referring to Hank III?

Tim McGraw releasing another old single!?!?! Country Aircheck says “Nothing To Die For” is his next single. What happened to the new material that was supposed to come out before “Let It Go”?

Ooooooh and Trace Adkins is releasing “Marry For Money” as his next. Didn’t see that becoming a single. Disappointing night in the world of country music!

the Entertainer of the Year award is respectfully given to Kenny Chesney, but I honestly can’t wait until Brad Paisley (and my own bias favorite) Keith Urban…in fact, I’m miffed and surprised at why KU has yet to receive that honor. I’ve seen shows both live, DVD, and Youtube snippets of the three and still feel content to KU decision.
To J.R. Journey: HA HA! Very funny! But I’m sure TM would rather forget that FANtasy incident as Hill reigns in her man.
