Billboard Talks About Expanding To Nashville

  • Luke Bryan, whom I have never heard of, has penned songs for Billy Currington and Travis Tritt, and now for himself.

“I knew that becoming a songwriter was important in the process of becoming an artist,” Bryan explains. “I believe it is really how you get grounded in the music business. But most of all, I think it’s just about the coolest job in the world - sit around all day and come up with songs.”

I think it’s funny how in articles like these they’re always trying to push the country boy lifestyle of the artist like it’s supposed to make the listener relate to him a little more.

  • CMT has a list of music related books to be released this year. Some sound interesting, such as Charlie Daniels and Big & Rich, but the majority of them sound like a bore to country fans.
  • Billboard wants to expand to Nashville and create a Billboard Country Music Awards telecast. “Country music is very important to Billboard and we would love to put the spotlight on its brightest stars.” On a side note, someone probably needs to tell them how to spell “country.”
  • Cindy Watts is moving on from The Daily News Journal to become an entertainment writer at The Tennessean and has some quasi-humorous stories about interviews she participated in for The DNJ.
  • Emmylou Harris talked with Andrew Dansby at The Houston Chronicle about her music and how her former record label thought she was done.

Of Wrecking Ball — a career-redefining recording from 1995 — she said, “I just consider it one of my records. At least it has something unique to say.”

Her voice ties it all together. As does her belief that “country music, and all music, needs to be what my friend called ‘washed in the blood.’ Especially country. That’s where it came from. All those murder ballads and the deeply spiritual stuff, the mountain music, music that came from Scotland and England.”

  • HickoryWind reviews Son Volt’s newest album, and gives a little background info on the band during the process.
  • Connie Phillips from Blogcritics has a superb interview with Pam Tillis, who seems to be getting a lot of press in the blogosphere lately. Also from Blogcritics, is a review of the new Johnny Cash Ultimate Gospel album.
