I got to see the CCD's perform live at the Joshua Tree Music Festival in October 2007 and they were one of the best acts I witnessed and really got the crowd going. I had gone primarily to see Uncle Earl and The Greencards, but the CCD's darn near stole the show. One factor that really made the performance unique was a black friend of their's who drove up from San Diego who is an expert "Slap Dancer" and played a mean mouth harp to boot. The dance routines that guy did during some of the CCD's songs was darn near spellbinding. Its too bad he isn't a regular member of the group when they tour.

The historical type of mountain string music they play isn't going to appeal to many current mainstream country fans, but the more eclectic Americana format is a good fit. I was not familiar with the Blu Cantrell song when they sang it but Rhiannon's vocals blew me away. I wish this band had a dual personality and would release an album entirely composed of interesting covers of modern songs just to hear what they are capable of musically.

Paste Magazine turned me onto these folks a while back (they were on the same smpler cd that introduced me to Sarah Borges). Good stuff, I bet they are really good live, as often-times, the studio versions just dont do these types of acts justice.

Hope the rest of their stuff is better than that one. They can definitely play, but the vocals ruin it... they're nothing that even resembles country.
