Amy Dalley – “Let’s Try Goodbye”
The latest single from Curb’s Amy Dalley is another in a string of well-written songs by the capable vocalist/songwriter/supreme hottie. But Dalley is just a little bit too good and too smart for her genre–”Let’s Try Goodbye,” is so musically progressive that it doesn’t fit well in the current format, and that spells disaster for an artist who needs a strong showing at radio to jump-start a stalled career. Lyrics like, “It hurts me to hate you/when I love you, like I do” sound too AC. And even though there is a whole chorus of pundits who would claim that the lines between country and pop have been irrevocably blurred, the truth remains that country lyrics, even in songs that sound pop, carry with them the expectation of a certain tone, a certain distinct narrative form. I hope, however, that I’m wrong–that this song will find a home at country radio. Because it deserves to be a hit.
