If ever there was an artist that needed a made up stage last name, Becky is it! Schlegel sounds like something from yiddish slang.... (Geez, I'm kiding).

Becky's music is interesting and will appeal to PHC fans, but I need something that is more likely to keep me awake while driving. Garrison Keilor just loves mellow folk artists like The Wailin' Jenny's, so its not surprising Becky is a cast member.

If instead someone wants bluegrass/newgrass related female vocals that knock your socks off, then the "Listen To The Music" album by 3 Fox Drive can't be beat! There are a lot of great female vocalists working in the bluegrass related realm, but the Fox Sisters are my favorites. If 3 Fox Drive were to perform on Prairie Home Companion, their high energy level might cause anxiety attacks in the laid back audience! (lol)

I'm so glad you reviewed this one, Jim. I heard "Bound for Tennessee" online a couple of weeks ago and immediately ran to Schlegel's MySpace page because I really thought Schlegel elevated the single with a lovely interpretive performance. The tone of her voice is a neat mix of Lee Ann Womack's fragility and Alison Krauss' haunting beauty. I agree with you that her lyrics can be a bit pedestrian, but somehow the melody, production and her vocals come together really well and make the songs more than they are. "Jenny" is a definite standout.
