Alan Jackson – “It’s All About Him”
When I heard that Alan Jackson had written a new song for the release of his wife’s book, I honestly didn’t expect it to be this good. Maybe I just shouldn’t ever doubt Alan Jackson. It’s a seemingly simple song, but in Jackson’s capable hands, it works. The instrumentation is superb as the song soars when he’s backed by trumpets on the chorus and falls back into peaceful serenity with Celtic instrumentation providing the closing background.
I think the song will hit its mark with those that agree with its message of focusing attention on God, and probably fall on deaf ears for those who don’t. That’s just the nature of spirituality in our times and I guess that’s why I like country music because my belief structure has representation. My biases are most likely shining through, but this song struck a chord with me, and isn’t that what music is supposed to do?

I’d never claim to be a terribly spiritual person, but I like the song too. I also enjoy Alan Jackson’s Christmas album from 2002, and especially the self-penned title song “Let It Be Christmas,” and it seems a common thread of respectful reverence connects those songs with this one. He comes across as genuine and sincere, and that’s something not a whole lot of folks in Nashville can do these days.

Can’t there be just one atheist country star, so my belief structure can be represented too?

How about you take matters into your own hands and become a country music star, instead? Then we could reminisce and tell everyone about all the wonderful comments you used to leave us before you made it big. It would be grand.

I’m pretty close right now. All I need now is talent, drive, good looks, charisma, experience, financing, and a few other things and I’ll be all set.

I’d give it a thumbs up as well, it reminds me of “The Heart of Worship”.

I’ll tell ya one thing, Chris. If there ever is a country singer who has a big hit about being an atheist, about thirty more atheist songs will hit the airwaves a few weeks later. Toby Keith just might say he was one all along!

Alan’s done it again! Nothing short of his warm heart and inspirational music. I think will touch so many people and make them think about their own lives.
