I read Miss Leslie’s comment just a few minutes ago – it took me a while to get through all the comments on the latest Malec Minute. But I found her comment to be the most thoughtful and intelligent of the lot.
I’m also looking forward to Season 2 of Can You Duet. Even though last season’s winner finalists haven’t really met with any success yet, the show was packed with talent. Here’s hoping they have the same level of talent this year too.

Jimmy Dale Gilmore is going to sing a couple of songs about his dad on today’s Fresh Air (NPR).
June 19, 2009 at 12:52 pm Permalink
Are they going to be about his dad, or just some of his dad’s favorite songs?

Can someone hit fast-forward until September 22?

I’ll second that Mike. Guy Clark makes me want to put my pen away, and Verlon makes me want to put my guitar away.

I bet Alan Jackson groaned when he got the news about the Hollywood star.
I’m looking forward to the 2nd season of “Can You Duet” too. J.R.: “Joey and Rory” did pretty well for getting nominated for a ACM award already. Kacey and Katie have a video out and the winners “Caitlyn and Will” really just had their come out at the pre-CMT awards. But from what I’ve read, most listeners were impressed. Hopefully, this is the year they finally reach at least the “Joey and Rory” level.

Brody: Honestly my brain is so friend today that all I remember is Jimmy Dale Gilmore is going to be singing on the Fresh Air show that is a tribute to dads.
Vicki: Yeah, having a Hollywood star kind of loses its luster when you have to tell people “its not THAT close to Ryan Seacrest’s.”

Well, since Brody has finally made me a fast fan of Guy Clark, that September 22 day looks pretty exciting to me too.

For those interested, Ashley Monroe has at least one co-write on Guy Clark’s upcoming album. And here’s another song that’ll be on the album (it’s from a performance we saw back in February): “Hemingway’s Whisky“

I’m looking forward to Carrie Underwood’s new song “Oklahoma Wind”. It’s a co-write with Bill Anderson. Her many teen fans want a fun, fast song since the last two: “Just a Dream”, “I Told You So” were not. But I reminded them the first ones out of the gate have been “Jesus, Take the Wheel” and “So Small”. I’m hoping Oklahoma Wind is a good one…with Bill as co-write I don’t see how it can fail. If this does happen to be a fun one…could it be a song about Blake Shelton rushing to the bathroom?

Miss Leslie is the Roddy Piper of traditional country music when it comes to defending what she believes in! She’s here to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and she’s all out of bubble gum! (lol) Go Miss Leslie!
Arty Hill and the gang are alright but I’m surprised at their position on the Americana charts. Call it California pride, but I think San Diego’s Palominos could show these guys a thing or two, and Heybale is much more interesting. Hmm…
Gosh, I’m surprised GAC even knows who Jimmie Rodgers is! (lol)
I guess by my reaction to the Lee Hazelwood song that I’m definitely NOT a groover! (lol)

Rick I find that GAC keeps a good balance between traditional, bluegrass, and artists of today. I think having the Grand Ole Opry live helps too although this year the “live” part has not been as frequent. CMT I find..is more straight money grabbing contemporary country especially with the lovefest with Taylor they are having.

Vicki, most of my comments here are made with my tongue firmly planted in my cheek. I know some have labeled sarcasm the lowest form of humor, but dang I must love rolling in the mud of hogpen humor! (lol)
GAC does a respectable job of honoring all types of country music and I appreciate that. I don’t watch much as I’m convinced the “C” stands for “Commercials” these days. And it seems most times I tune in its a “Top 20 Countdown” and that makes me switch channels quick! Suzanne Alexander did score big brownie points this week by featuring Lane Turner on “On The Streets”! (lol)

Here’s something that will warm Northy’s heart: (from a KKGO email alert)
“Idolessence: Not that there was any doubt, but teens love “country music” too. The 2009 Teen Choice Awards Female Album category nominees include Carrie Underwood’s “Carnival Ride” and Taylor Swift’s “Fearless”. Swift is also up for Female Artist, Love Song (for her single “Love Song,” appropriately enough) and Tour. The show airs Aug. 10 at 8pm ET/PT on FOX-TV.”
Quick Northy, you can help Carrie survive the Taylor Swift screamin’ teenie onslaught by voting here (because aren’t we really all still teens at heart? lol):

Thanks Rick but I play that voting stuff straight. You have to put in your age to vote there and I’m getting closer to the point where a teen could be a grandkid.
Thanks for the link NorthTexas.

K, after all my bitching before I guess I’m ready to be civilized now.
I just wanted to comment that the Carrington album promises to be awsome. I have his “King Of The Mountain” album and its better than anything the BC Boys ever cooked up.
