The Academy of Country Music announced nominees for the top new artist categories, which will be fan-voted for the second year in a row. They include:
- Top New Solo Vocalist
- Luke Bryan
- Jamey Johnson
- Chris Young
- Top New Vocal Duo
- Bomshel
- Joey + Rory
- Steel Magnolia
- Top New Vocal Group
- Eli Young Band
- Gloriana
- The Lost Trailers
- Actor Clifton Collins Jr. directed and starred in a new video for Jamey Johnson’s song “High Cost of Living.”
- Lyrics Street Records signed Kevin Fowler.

McBride’s behavior had grown increasingly erratic over the past couple years, from early reports of drunkenness at public appearances to deliberately inciting riots at some concerts. Recently, she even agreed to tour with the guy who recorded “Badonkadonk” and “I Got My Game On.” “That was when we knew she really had a problem,” said friend Faith Hill. But none of McBride’s prior conduct hinted at cockfighting, or at the pistol-waving confrontation with authorities that transpired at her sprawling Tennessee country estate yesterday.

Great Jason Eady song/performance.
Just get rid of every “new” award category, they’re always terrible. None of the solo vocalists are new. And why would ‘duo’ get their own award?

Can you think of ANY ‘new’ female artist who did anything last year who hadn’t won or wasn’t previously nominated for such things twice? Sarah Buxton was the only one who met the requirements the ACM lays out for such things and her single is breaking THIS year.

So if they hadn’t combined the male and female categories, there would be no trophy given this year for new female artist, simply due to a lack of eligible nominees? Has that ever happened before?

Its great to see Elizabeth Cook is going to be part of the Americana show at SXSW! Its nice to know at least one great artist will be there…
Imelda May’s comments about Wanda Jackson weren’t very profound, but what can you expect from an Irish gal who quotes David Gilmour saying: “and Dave Gilmour of Pink Floyd told me: “You’re very sexy, in a trashy way – and I mean that in the nicest possible sense.”" Crikey!
I found most of today’s music links about as exciting as Odumbo’s snooze fest speech last night. The fact many of them may be Obamavoters might have something to do with it…
PS – I love Leon Russell’s original version of “Stranger In a Strange Land” with the Shelter People and Owen Temple’s version seems kind of pointless in comparison. Yawn.

Happy to see Jamey Johnson nominated…but I’m really discouraged by the fan vote…I think it’ll be a popular vote winner, not maybe the one actually deserving of the award. There is already fan voted awards, I’ve always thought of the ACM and CMAs as more prestigious awards because it wasn’t a popularity vote, it was actual artistry.

I love Kevin Fowler, but also hope he doesn’t sell out with this new record deal. I thought for sure there was no way he’d follow the same path that has led other “Texas song writing/singing heroes” to complete rejection by their original fan base. He’d better be careful with this career move or, just like what happened to “PG”, folks won’t want him back in Texas. Don’t let’em change you or your sound Kevin.
