ACM Award Winners And Shooter Jennings Is Expecting Baby With Girlfriend
- The big buzz around all the news sites this morning pertaining to country music is the ACM Awards show last night. In case you missed it, check out our live blog for a recount of the events as they happened. Overall I felt like it was a pretty successful show. They highlighted mostly good artists and most of the performances were entertaining.
- Shooter Jennings’ girlfriend is reportedly pregnant according to sources who claim that they saw Drea de Matteo shopping for maternity clothes on Madison Avenue. Update: The reports were confirmed by Matteo’s publicist yesterday.
- Texas country artist Wade Bowen sees change brewing in Nashville:
“Within the next few years, I believe Nashville will be different,” Bowen explained. “It will be a more hip town,” he said. According to Bowen, the Nashville music scene isn’t booming right now. It enjoyed huge success throughout the 1990s with the emergence of Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, the Dixie Chicks and Shania Twain. But those acts have matured, “and everyone in Nashville today is looking for the next big thing,” Bowen said. “I think something with a lot more edge will be introduced out of Nashville that will change the country music scene forever,” Bowen said.
I don’t think you can create “the next big thing” and have that person be successful for a full career, their might be an immediate success, but it will be hard to sustain. With that said, Wade Bowen is an artist worth checking out, although I must admit I prefer his live shows to his studio work.
- More ACM Award coverage: Peter Cooper calls George Strait the John Wayne of country music (nice analogy) and also mentions:
Flatts’ Lyric Street Records waged a visible advertising campaign in Nashville, adorning billboards and city buses with Flatts’ formidable commercial statistics.
Will someone really look at a billboard, see all those statistics, and make a mental note that they need to check out Rascal Flatts?
And lastly, from the same article, Cooper mentions that Brooks & Dunn’s manager told the guys that there was a leak and they wouldn’t be receiving the Top Vocal Duo award this year, so they were actually surprised when they did win.
- Walt Wilkins’ Diamonds In the Sun is due for release in July.
