A Fashion Line of Kenny Chesney Jeans Is In Concept Stage
- A fashion line of Kenny Chesney jeans is currently in the concept stage, according to a spokesman for Sights Denim Systems. Hopefully they’ll go well with the Toby Keith Hats.
- California-base label Shout! Factory acquired the catalog of Hightone Records last Friday. Past Hightone artists include Hank Thompsn, Joe Ely, Jimmy Dale Gilmore, Tom Russell, Dale Watson, and Dave Alvin. Shout! Factory is still going through all the titles, but plans to release some “best of” titles later this year.
- Asleep at the Wheel opened Saturday night’s show at the Long Center for the Performing Arts weekend-long grand opening party in Austin, and acted as the backup band for Willie Nelson and Lyle Lovett. Nelson, Lovett, and various Wheel vocalists even harmonized on several songs. Other performers included Rick Trevino and Flaco Jimenez before the evening concluded with 18 musicians romping through “On the Road Again.”
- Edward Morris thinks someone should write a book on Little Jimmy Dickens, a sentiment I wholly agree with. Dickens is the oldest member of the Opry, joining in 1948 he was there when Hank Williams joined a year later.
- Willie Nelson recently lost his braids in a domino game, but don’t be too sad, he also announced his plans to go on tour with Jessica Simpson and Mariah Carey next summer before retiring, forming a motorcycle gang, and marrying several more times.
- With his sobriety Justin Townes Earle feels like he’s become a better songwriter and a more focused writer.
- Aaron Watson made an appearance on the Galleywinter forums last night for a scheduled chat. Answering a question about the most surprising thing that’s happened to him at a show, Watson said:
At a Texas frat party on Saturday, some drunk Longhorn BOUGHT and then BURNT one of my maroon shirts right in front of me. Then yelled that he loved me and blew me a kiss. WOW
- The Ralph Stanley Museum & Traditional Mountain Music Center is set to host Dr. Stanley’s 81st birthday on April 12th.
- Vince Gill returned to the location of his first stage performance on Thursday night at the Cleveland Arts & Science Specialty School in Oklahoma City. Gill was seven when he first graced the stage, but this time he was there to raise $100,000 to renovate the school’s auditorium, which was renamed Vince Gill Auditorium earlier in the day, and to receive the 2007 Oklahoman of the Year Award from Oklahoma Today magazine.
- Trace Adkins is slated to make an appearance in American Carol, a takeoff on Charles Dickens’ classic holiday tale. Kelsey Grammer will play Scrooge and Adkins will play the Spirit of Christmas Future, who uses his musical abilities to help Scrooge avoid a tragic end.

Those WN stories are easily the greatest April Fools gags I’ve seen in a long while. Although the ‘Senator McLain’ typo in the Willie for Prez story kind of shattered its credibility.

SW, please go pick up Watson’s “Dreamland” as well. That disc has more of a swing feel to it than the more recent and excellent discs you have just picked up.
