Carrie Underwood's choices for single releases on this album have been poor decisions. Undo It and Mama's Song are as pop sounding as it gets, even if they aren't pop remixed or sent to pop radio. They don't belong on country radio. I've heard Someday When I Stop Loving You once, that is a fantastic song, that is the type of single she should be releasing to country radio. Carrie has a ton of talent but she needs to send more stuff like Someday When I Stop Loving You, Make The World Go Away, and I Told You So to country radio and less crap like Undo It and Mama's Song. Then and only then will she win back the country critics.

"It’s very meritorious because it resembles how the Pop fans were accepting of the Country sound. It’s extremely hard to get Pop fans to accept a single, non-mixed Country song, and take it in on their own to make it a crossover success.

and then later said:

"At this point, it doesn’t matter if she would make a song that would sound like a complete Celine Dion song; it would still counteract with the major boost she’s given Country.
She can release a song that Pop fans buy all she wants, but at the end of the day, she will forever remain Country."

So on the one hand you're praising Carrie for not remixing her records for the pop market, but then go on to seemingly say that even if she does remix in the future -- or just release a pure pop record (which by definition a "complete Celine Dion song" would have to be) -- you'll give her a free pass for doing so. Isn't that trying to have it both ways??

What impact has Carrie Underwood made? Ripping off Celine Dion isn't even new to the genre- Faith Hill has been doing it since the 90's.

Trish - trust me, I was praising Underwood. She deserves more than appraisal.

Stormy - The impact Carrie has made on Country music (regardless as to whether her songs have crossed over or not) has been astonishing and one of the biggest the genre has ever seen, and will ever seen. At this point, it doesn't matter if she would make a song that would sound like a complete Celine Dion song; it would still counteract with the major boost she's given Country.
She can release a song that Pop fans buy all she wants, but at the end of the day, she will forever remain Country. Last time I checked, if you're inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, you're pretty much established for life in Country music. She reminds herself and the public every day that her ultimate home is, and will forever remain, Country music.

I think the EOTY were all set up so that Brad Paisley can finally win. (He should've won years ago). Keith Urban is his only real competition and he had a quiet year last year. He did enough in 2008-09 to win, but not in 2009-10. The other three have not put up the massive tour gate numbers to win yet. It's even questionable as to why some of them were nominated. Miranda? Zac Brown? You can't be nominated for both Best New Artist and EOTY. That makes no sense at all. If Brad doesn't win the award this year, then the history of the honor and tradition of the EOTY is damned forever.

Trish: How exactly is Carrie Underwood staying loyal to country by making songs that sound like warmed over Celine Dion?

How could remixing songs lead to the demise of country music?!

Bottom line is Carrie should be PRAISED for staying loyal to country music...

Well, this is just a restatement of what I already asked about. I know what "staying loyal" to a set of, say, religious or moral beliefs means - after all, you can't really hold two sets of beliefs that differ on any fundamental issue - but exactly what does it mean to "stay loyal" to a particular style of music, and why is it PRAISEworthy? If an artist wants to make some other kind of music - maybe even by using two (or more) different kinds of backing on the same song - but then steps away from doing so because of fear that s/he will lose support from an audience, isn't that artist compromising his or her artistic integrity? What's PRAISEworthy about that?

What is PRAISEworthy about limiting yourself to one style of music?

Matt, Omar,

Carrie or her label did not try to get Undo it or Cowboy Casanova played on pop radio. I know this for a fact as I was in contact with Carrie's label. Also, the following evidence should prove this to anyone.

First, again Carrie is unwilling to remix a country song and if you aren't willing to do that in this age you are not going to get any significant airplay on pop radio. You would have to go back years to find a country single that wasn't remixed (Before he Cheats) and had a great chart run on pop radio. The latest country singles that have had success on pop radio were from Lady A and Taylor Swift. Lady A's song Need you Now was remixed despite the success it had on country radio. All of Taylor Swift's songs are remixed to pop.

Second, If you don't see the country artist giving interviews to pop radio stations they are not making a serious attempt to get played on pop radio. Pop DJ's just like country DJ's want the artist interviewed on their station promoting their current single. Carrie only does regular interviews with country radio.

Bottom line is Carrie should be PRAISED for staying loyal to country music even though it would be so easy to approach pop radio to get played and increase sales. Lady Antebellum and Taylor Swift did sellout and while it increased their sales it also showed they want to be more than country artists. Well, they can have their fun at pop and I'll stay with REAL country artists such as Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley to name a couple!

Look at "Before He Cheats" by Carrie Underwood. It went 3x Platinum and is the fourth-longest charting song in the history of the Billboard Hot 100, and it was never remixed. Not once.
