I agree with almost everything in here. Especially all your choices and comments about the new artists. I am always surprised when Eric Church is not nominated for any of the “new singer” categories. He is very talented. I am a huge Jack Ingram fan but he is not new to country music and he had a #1 hit I think 2 years ago with “Wherever You Are.” I’m also glad you raised the point that the best vocalist should probably be a good singer. haha. oh the academy… they have problems. Anyways, good article!

Well I still think Bucky Covington should of been nominated! “To each his own” mainly to Corey, Cindy2, you can have your opinion’s but most of the country music loving crowd does not agree with you! “Another brick in the Wall” is a fun song that Bucky does mainly with his twin brother Rocky and the crowds love it! Just like when other artist’s do covers and they all do them nowadays at concerts. Usually bring back fond memories! I know it does for me since I like rock music also. Does the show on CMT called “Crossroads” ring a bell with any of you all? Sorry, I don’t agree with most of your assesments here because Bucky has been recognized and awarded elsewhere (New Faces, Aircheck country artist, Music Row artist, etc.) so I know that Bucky Covington is here to stay. Mark Miller of Sawyer Brown believes in him just as Dierks Bentley, Trace Atkins, and other artist’s that have asked him to be a part of their tour’s. Bucky just doesn’t “show up” and open for them!!!

I wrote about Church in the Belmont Vision in 2006 (March)…so he’s been a major label, radio viable artist since at least that point. Maybe that’s not a century, but I still don’t consider him a new artist.

Hmmmm Jim….why do you say that Eric Church has been around for a century? His first CD came out July of 06…..and he’s had no nominations…he’s a FANTASTIC artist.

what about ashton shepherd for new female vocalist?? i love sarah buxton, but taking off this pain is already a bigger hit than anything sarah has done and she has a cd out now (although that probably wasnt considered since it came out after the eligebility period) but i would have picked her over sarah

Ouch, Bucky got burned. I didn’t think of Gary Allan (I guess I’m being conditioned to only think of the viable candidates), but he’s definitely deserving and so is Shelton, it just goes to show how tough the competition is in that category.

Gary Allan still doesn’t get enough props. Blake Shelton is a fantastic vocalist. And can someone tell me why Craig Morgan doesn’ t get more recognition? “Tough” would have sounded like any other cancer song done by a lesser singer. When he sings it, I believe him.
I have to say, Bucky Covington is only semi-listenable as a studio creation. I fell across part of a concert he did with Sawyer Brown on DIRECTV. I felt embarrassed for Sawyer Brown. Bucky was horrible. I used to call him mushmouth on American Idol. I’ve since added tone-deaf to that description.

Kerri, everything you listed as a positive for Bucky is subjective (although most things discussed on here are!). However, I just saw a concert with Luke Bryan, Bucky Covington, and Dierks Bentley. While I did not mind Bucky’s set, he certainly was not country. I do like his voice, but his choice of a strait-laced cover of “Another Brick In The Wall” was definitely odd in a specifically country concert. Luke Bryan blew him out of the water even though he was the first to take the stage. Dierks was fantastic as usual.
