- Chet Flippo interviewed Kris Kristofferson on the topic of his new album and approach to songwriting.
- Kris Kristofferson on his friendship with Stephen Bruton:
“He was walking with a cane in the studio, but I was able to convince myself that he was getting better,” Kristofferson said. “It was a comfort to have him there. We’d looked death in the face together before, you know? Back in the early days, at a rough river up in Idaho where we were riding on these rubber rafts. I was drinking a beer and looked and saw Stephen’s head going down the river, and he had no idea how fast he was going. He looked at me with terror, and I jumped in with him, and the next thing you knew we were out in the river together, going with the flow because it was flowing too fast to go against it.”
- Friends of fiddler Amy Farris comment on what she meant to them in an obituary on The Los Angeles Times‘ website.
- Country California’s C.M. Wilcox on the recent release from Angela Easterling:
BlackTop Road is soaked in an intelligence and far-reaching historical sense that makes you suspect its origins couldn’t be entirely human, or at least that all of these songs and performances couldn’t have emanated from one young woman. Easterling, whose voice comes with nary a hint of twang, offers one possible explanation in the eerie “A.P. Carter’s Blues” [...]
- Jewly Hight commented on the rising profile of women in bluegrass music for Nashville Scene.
- The Boot’s Robyn Flans on last night’s All For the Hall benefit in Los Angeles:
But truly it was guest Michael McDonald who brought the whole event into focus when he ended the evening with ‘You Don’t Know Me’ by Cindy Walker, the songwriter who was spoken of prior to the performances as someone who needed to be preserved in the Country Music Hall of Fame and who had, herself, revered the organization. Michael blew the audience away with his rendition of her standard that reminded everyone why they were present.

The video for “White Liar” is awesome, and “Keep You” is fantastic as well. I like the video for “Cowboy Casanova”, it has sweet costumes, but I would have rather seen a bunch of guys pounding the guy to a pulp.

I loved how CMT dished out a lot of music videos at once. It was very exciting.
Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire and Miranda Lambert’s videos were my three favorites!
I thought Sugarland, Billy Currington, and Michelle Branch’s videos were good.
Kenny and Keith were okay.
Tim McGraw was my least favorite.

I agree with Dan, But my top 3 would be: Miranda lamberts, Sugarlands, and Reba’s.

Sugarland’s was also pretty good

Are we saying “MirLam” now? Is that a thing?

Lambert’s and Underwood’s were brilliant. Speaking of Lambert, I can’t get over how great of an album Revolution is.

Some good stuff in those last videos. Just watched Tracy Byrd and Tracy Lawrence and I’ll have to check out a few of the others.

The fact that Jamey Johnson was in Miranda Lambert’s as the preacher makes it all that much more MirLam

Miranda Lambert nicknames = ‘Ran or MirLam
Is there a problem with me referring to her as such as a fan?

Jamey Johnson being in the Lambert video sold it for me. Loved it.
I’ll need to watch the others after work.

Thanks for the Amy Farris link to comments posted by those who knew her and honor her memory.
Music Fog sure gets a lot of cool artists to record those videos in their motor home. Its rare they feature a new video these days that I don’t find to be interesting in some way or another.
I’ll take a pass on all the new music videos at CMT, but I might watch the fan club videos for Josh Turner, Sara Evans, and the Two Tracy’s as their music will at least be identifiable as “country music” from a historical perspective.

Trace Adkins might want to be careful. As time time goes on, the most conspicuous “no comment” is not Capitol’s, but his.

“MirLam” is fine by me, I’m just trying to keep up with this stuff.

Are we saying “MirLam” now? Is that a thing?
I like “RanBert” better.

Was “Life’s A Dance” really such a groundbreaking record that its 17th anniversary warrants a blog entry from CMT?

I prefer “LamMir” just for how it sounds…

I kind of wondered the same thing, Razor X, though I like the song pretty well.

-I’m really bored of the fan nicknames. Just me, I know. And Razor – Reckon Scott Adams of Dilbert fame, might have a lawsuit case against “RanBert” :)
-Jamey Johnson is God, so seeing him do the Preacher role is fitting.
-Have always considered “Life’s A Dance” to be one of the most important songs in my development as a Country fan.

I bagged a Lam Mir in 1947 when I was on a six month sabbatical touring the Archipelago. The steamboat chef boiled the Lam Mir meat until it was falling off the bone, and then served it in a white wine brine with hints of rosemary.
Of course, this was all well before the LamMir’s numbers were threatened by a human-to-tree-dwelling-bipedal-rodent strain of typhoid, and the Lam Mir was placed on the endangered species list.

Listening to Miranda’s CD to right now. I absolutely love “The House that Built Me”. I think this is going to be another Album of the year winner for her. I was listening to David Nails CD too. Not bad for a first CD. One song skips and thought darn, store won’t take it back since I opened it so glad it’s on a song that’s so so.
AS for Videos: Carrie’s is Fantastic! Miranda’s is fun! I still don’t understand Sugarland’s video yet. I may get boo’d here but I really love Kenny’s song “I’m Alive”. It’s beautiful.

Definitely dig the Miranda Lambert video…Jamey Johnson being preacher man is telling and the best choice. Ms. Lambert has more of my respect and eye out now.
