My Brothers believe it or not. My Dad would treat my Mom with care, even going so far to go to the Mall with her during the Christmas season and anytime she went shopping. Now my brothers treat their wives the same way. They go all out with decorations no matter how cold and icy it is out, those decorations get up. They never pass a salvation army bucket without dropping their last dollar (or penny) in that bucket.

The opposite was my ex. Absolutely hated decorations and it was just a mess to him. When I was having our children, he had his mother go to the grocery store for necessary milk. He hated waiting "Time is money and that's my money being wasted" he'd always say. Now that we are divorced, he doesn't even have a wreath on his door, nothing. He's the Grinch that you speak of.

I think I am the one who really gets into Christmas in my family. I start decorating on Dec 1st and don's stop until Christmas Eve. I love it, every room is decorated and with all the snow we are getting it's really going to be a white Christmas.

My father was a big brut of a man. Standing at 6'2" with broad shoulders, a full beard, and a furrowed brow, he was enough to intimidate most. With that being said, it was always a delight to see him transform during the holiday season. My father would merrily take off through the woods, looking for the perfect little Christmas Fir to bring home. Our beautiful tannenbaum would always be a glorious sight after Daddy meticulously decorated it. He was like a kid on Christmas morning the whole month through. The only thing that seemed to delight him more was the promise of snow. Growing up in North Georgia, we didn't see much snow, and still don't. Those rare times when the white stuff did fall, I could even feel my father's heart leap with excitment. He couldn't wait to take all of us kids out to play. And if we ever had a white Christmas, I swear the man couldn't have been happier.

Daddy passed away July 5, 1999, when I was 4 months pregnant with my daughter. The day he passed was the first time I felt the tiny baby within my body move. She was born exactly 5 months later on December 5, 1999. The moment she was born, Silent Night began playing in the delivery room. As I held my newborn, and cried, thinking of my father, I knew his spirit, his Christmas spirit, was there with me in that room.

This Christmas and every Christmas since, I've tried to do all I can to keep the excitment and spirit of Christmas that my father shared alive, for it's the one time of year when I really feel him with me.

I would have to say unfortunately that this year I have become the Scrooge. I work retail and this time of year is very hectic and extremely tiring. So by this point, I'm over it.

My partner would be the most festive person I know in regards to Christmas. He's in retail too, so that in itself makes that statement sound even more impressive. He loves this holiday and only wishes that our jobs wouldn't mess it up every year (i.e., we are both working on Christmas day).

The most festive has always been my mother. Even today, as a young man in my twenties, she still lays out my presents like "Santa Left Them There." If thats not festive...I don't know what is.

We just had a new baby girl and my wife dressed her up today as a little Miss Santa Claus. She was adorable- the two of them tie for my vote for most festive this holiday season...

I try to stay away from the Grinch-like folk at Christmas, but with the economic times so uncertain, there seems to be a lot more unhappy folks this year than years past...Here's hoping for a better '09!
