The 9513’s 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway

Now that all the presents have been unwrapped and all the ham and turkey has been eaten, our family here at The 9513 would like to take a moment to wish you and yours a very merry Christmas. We hope you’ve had a wonderful holiday season so far, and that your new year will be filled with all the best things in life–including a ton of great country music.

Actually, not all of the presents have been handed out. We still have a couple of big gifts waiting beneath our tree, the first of which is yesterday’s prize pack including:

Johnny Cash – 1978 Christmas Special
Johnny Cash – 1979 Christmas Special
Elvis – Christmas Duets
Colin Raye – A Family Christmas
Sugarland – Love on the Inside (Deluxe Fan Edition)
Ashton Shepherd – Sounds So Good
Eli Young Band – Always the Love Songs (Autographed Copy)

That’s a lot of cool stuff. And our reader Ron will be taking it home.
Now it’s the time you’ve all been waiting for–the grand prize drawing.

Over the past 12 days, you’ve had a number of chances to enter and win our daily prize drawings. With each day’s entry, you were registered in the grand prize contest. That prize has been kept a secret, though we’ve been hinting about its contents.

So just what have you been dropping your name in the box for?

Courtesy of our friends over at RCA, our grand prize winner will receive a copy of the new Elvis Presley box set The Complete ‘68 Comeback Special. Check out the official blurb:

“During a career of invention and re-invention the ‘68 Comeback Special is perhaps THE pivotal performance of Elvis’ career. He was back from the movie career that had kept him away from the live arena throughout most of the 60’s and, what’s more, he looked and sounded amazing. To celebrate the 40th anniversary we are releasing the Complete ‘68 Comeback Special, a box set that features the whole story from the rehearsals to the finished show, outtakes and rarely heard gems. A Deluxe Edition 4 disc box set including over 103 songs and CD sized Box with text foil stamped lift off lid, each disc is housed in mini LP style wallets with a 36 page booklet. This album contains 8 previously unreleased tracks.”

A fantastic box set that deserves a place on the music shelf of anyone who considers himself or herself a fan of the King of Rock’n'Roll.

Also included in the grand prize are two great Johnny Cash DVDs–the 1978 and 1979 Cash Christmas Specials. And there’s more.

We have two of the year’s best debut CDs from two of the genre’s most engaging new artists. Courtesy of the fine folks at Sugar Hill Records, we have an autographed copy of Joey + Rory’s fantastic The Life of a Song, featuring the single “Cheater Cheater,” and courtesy of RCA we have an autographed copy of Crystal Shawanda’s Dawn of a New Day, featuring “You Can Let Go” and “My Roots Are Showing.”

The grand prize winner will also receive this fantastic collection of holiday music…

…And two great CDs from gritty, left-of-center artists Hayes Carll and Ryan Bingham.

Finally, to round things out, the grand prize will include four of 2008’s mainstream country releases.

Over the course of our 12 Days of Christmas giveaway, we’ve given away (including the grand prize), 45 fantastic items. If you were selected as a winner, we’ll be contacting you for shipping information in the next few days. We’d also like thank all of the fine label and behind-the-scenes folks who offered their prize support and made this promotion possible.

After totaling up all the votes, verifying that all votes were eligible (i.e. one vote per day, maximum), and running all the entries through our randomizer, we’re happy to announce that the grand prize winner in The 9513’s 12 Days of Christmas giveaway is:

Gary Zarda, whose day eleven entry was randomly pulled from our hat. Everyone give Gary a high five, as he’ll be receiving all of the prizes listed in this post.

Thanks to everyone who entered–the staff here at The 9513 has truly enjoyed reading your responses to each day’s question. We’re looking forward to making this promotion even bigger and better in 2009.

I just read of my having won the prize and am very grateful.

I am a fairly new reader of The9513 but have been hooked since I happened on it. There is a world of music out there that I did not know existed but am a great fan of now, music that had something to say.

I also enjoyed reading people’s posts over the last 12 days. It was a unique way to share in the Christmas spirit.

Again, thank you to all of those involved in the contest, either running it or participating in it.

I’ll go ahead and say what everyone else who entered is too kind / diplomatic to say: Damn, I really wanted to win all that stuff! (So I could trade it in for credit at F.Y.E. and get some music I really wanted! LOL) Congratulations Gary. Looks like The 9513 has become your not so secret Santa this year!

Opry Weekend Alert: Some decent artists will be performing on the Opry this weekend (in addition to the regulars who really should perform a wider range of material!) Most of the “Opry Legends” performances of the same old songs are more stale than a month old loaf of bread… I can’t wait to see how good or bad the new “Traditional Thursday Nights at the Opry” sound starting in March. If they bookk the newer acts who are traditionalists it could be super. If they book the Top 40 pop-rocker types it could be terrible. We’ll see!

Friday Night (tonight) Picks: Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper, Sunny Sweeney, Chris Young, Joey + Rory. (Should be a good’un.)

Saturday Night (12/27): Jamey Johnson, the Cherryholmes Family, Jett Williams, The Barbie & Ken couple of pop country music Julianne Hough and Chuck Wicks, oh and some guy named Keith Urban.

I wonder if Joey + Rory will do the “Sleigh Bell Version” of “Cheater Cheater”? Hmmmm……

Well Joey + Rory sure don’t play by the normal rules when it comes to supporting their current radio single on the Opry as they didn’t even play it! Instead they started with the second cut off of Joey’s “Strong Enough To Cry” album titled “That’s Important To Me”. And for their closing song Rory handled the vocal duties on a humor song titled “Please Buy Our CD”! I’d love to see these two in concert in 2009 if they venture out to Southern California.

Congratulations, Gary! It’s always fun to win something, as I recently did at Music tomes, and you did in a huge way!

Big Congratulations to Gary! Even though I was crossing my fingers, it is ok I didn’t win. I received two more great CD’s for Christmas-Lee Ann Womacks “Call Me Crazy” and the CD from the Zak Brown Band. I got more hooked on them when I saw them perform on the Opry. So it’s all good. Again, Congrats to Gary and many blessings to all in the New Year!
