12 Days of Christmas Giveaway: Christmas With A Southwestern Twist
The 9513’s 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway
Congratulations to yesterday’s winner, Vicki, who picked up a copies of Mary Chapin Carpenter’s Come Darkness, Come Light and Toby Keith’s A Classic Christmas. Here’s what she had to say about her favorite Christmas song:
“Traditionally, there’s nothing like “Silent Night.” I cherish this song as I remember my first child when she was 6 months old. I was there in the quiet, with only the lights of the Christmas Tree shining, that I was breastfeeding her back to sleep. She was up in the middle to take her lanoxin. She had a rapid heart condition which she thankfully outgrew. I silently sang it while she suckled…and boy, did it ever give me the chills of how real a song can be.”
With today’s drawing, everyone has another chance to get registered for the grand prize. Remember, you can have up to 11 entries for the big prize pack, so make sure to enter each day’s contest.
That reminds me, I promised you some more details about the grand prize, didn’t I? Yesterday I revealed that it contained more than 12 individual items, and today, I can let slip that of those items, at least two are autographed by the artist.
Day Two:
Not all of the prizes we’re giving away are holiday themed. Today we’re adding to yesterday’s prize pack a copy of New Mexico native Ryan Bingham’s 2007 album Mescalito.
Texas Music Magazine: “Bingham talks and sings with a whiskey-and-cigarette throat that screams hard living. Hard in a way that can make a 25-year-old sound like a 50-year-old Tom Waits.”
Rolling Stone: “Bingham earns his sepia-toned album cover with a dusty wood-and-steel sound, and despite being twenty-five, sings like Steve Earle’s dad.”
That brings today’s prize haul to:
Toby Keith – A Classic Christmas
Mary Chapin Carpenter – Come Darkess, Come Light: Twelve Songs of Christmas
Ryan Bingham – Mescalito
Today’s Question:
To enter today’s giveaway, all you have to do is leave a comment to this article answering the following question:
On the first day of this contest, I asked about the best gift you’ve ever given or received. So now I’m curious–what are you giving this year that’s sure to put a smile on your loved one’s face, or what are you hoping to find under the tree on Christmas morning?
Entries must be posted no later than 11:00 AM CST, December 17th. Good luck, and merry Christmas from The 9513.

I gave my kid brother his gift a little early, so he could go on and enjoy himself. I had a little bit of money saved up for nothing in particular, and I gave it to him on Thanksgiving. The next day, he went out and spent it all on an iPod. It really felt great, seeing him so happy as he ran up to me with his iPod in hand, showing me how amazing he was at the games on it, hehe.

I am taking my 89-year-old grandfather to lunch as his Christmas gift. He never asks for anything and doesn’t really need anything so I felt the next best thing would be to spend time with him while enjoying a meal at one of his favorite restaurants.

The gift I’m giving my partner in life of 8 years. He loves Disney snowglobes and has a lot of them. This year I was able to spring for two more – a Jiminy Cricket one and a Robin Hood one. I know it doesn’t sound that special, but I know how much they will be loved and that in turn makes me happy.

I’m getting (have gotten) Mom a digital camera. She’s 74 and my dad is 76 and they got their first computer this summer so I think they need a digital camera. They also have a new (their very first) great-grandchild (in Oct) so they need the camera to capture all the moments and view them right away. My mom seldom takes pictures any more because she always waits forever to develop them (ie: develops Christmas pictures the following Halloween). Now they can take them, view them, and make prints if they want to, all in a day’s time. I’ve got my dad one of those digital picture viewers about the size of a credit card so he can take the baby pics (or other pics) with him in his shirt pocket when he goes to the drugstore to have coffee with the guys every morning.

My aunt used to be a huge fan/groupie of the San Francisco music scene, but over time she lost touch with indie music and she stopped finding much in the mainstream that appealed to her. When I was visiting for my grandfather’s funeral, I spent a lot of time listening to music and she would listen to me, wondering where she could find this kind of music. So basically, it is my annual tradition to get her a new cd by an artist she hasn’t heard of so she can get to know her music.

Giving: To my 16 year old granddaughter a ticket to see the traveling company of Broadway musical RENT next month in Cleveland. She’s obsessed with the music and the movie version. Wait till she sees it live. A whole other world.
Receiving: ‘Stuff’ doesn’t seem too important anymore, unless maybe it’s a new car or camper. My favorite gift would be spending time with friends and family and those I only see on occasion.
ps…I’ve got the Bingham CD. Another would make a good gift for a friend.

I’m most excited about giving my 4 yr old niece the Christmas song books she asked for. It’s a set of those cardboard books and a CD with three Christmas carols — Silent Night, Away in a Manger, and Hark the Herald Angels Sing. My Mom was a former music teacher and died last summer. This grandchild loves music and sings all the time. Can’t help thinking Mom would smile to see her open and love a gift like that. Keeps the music and the faith alive.
